Default Blue smoke problem :S

Hi guys! Im having a problem with my STi recently.

I have Perrin recirc BOV, K&N drop in filter, catless downpipe, Magnaflow cat-back and Cobb 91 Stage 2 MAP.

always used some Gulf 5w/40 oil with OEM subaru filter.

All started with my car having problems while accelaration.

So I first re-mapped with my AP and kinda fixed the problem.

But it came back : / Did a oil change and I figured out that there were only 2 qts left on the 5 i did put in :O

I did install a new part too, the Greddy oil plug but I don't think my problem comes from this part -_-

So when I start-up my car, a lot of blue smoke goes out, and my acceleration is still bad :S

Anyone had this issues?

thanks for your time!

Time for new pistons...you more than likely have busted ringland(s). Compression test will probably say which ones if it's that bad. The more you drive it, the more damage you are potentially doing, especially if you are going through oil that fast.

Park it at the nearest shop you trust (or dealer if you must) and get ready to build/replace your motor.

Yeh, what he ^ said. That does not sound good at all. Your acceleration problems are probably stemming from all that oil getting into the cylinder and burning, probably lowering your octane significantly (as well as the loss of compression).

You do NOT want to keep driving like that. Get that car into the shop ASAP. Hell, tow it to the shop!

I forgot to say that I didnt made an oil change for the past 4 month, so thats why it was so low on oil. I'll check my oil often by now.

The nearest subaru shop is at 250 miles from my place haha

If you are getting bluish smoke out of the tailpipe, then you are burning oil. The oil is either coming from your breather system (still stock I presume, no catch can/aos), or it is getting by the piston rings and into the combustion chamber, or it is coming from the turbo.

If the breather system is stock and causing a problem, then I would think there should be little smoke while just cruising.

If you are getting smoke regardless of what you do, then a ringland is more likely.

Here are two tests that will help to determine if it's a ringland (which means you really should park the car asap if it is)
1. Start the car and pull the oil cap off. If smokes comes out of the filler tube, then it's probably a ringland.
2. Push the gas pedal to the floor and try to start the car. The car should just crank and not start (depending on the tune). You will hear the compression stroke of each piston. If they don't all sound the same, then you probably have a compression issue (ringland). Typically the dead ones will sound "flat" and quieter (very little compression, so very little noise in comparison).

If either of those fail, then you most likely have a motor issue that will require a rebuild. If they pass, pull your IC and look for traces of oil. If there is a lot of oil in the IC, then something is probably screwed up with your breather system.

i would say to check your turbo seals.. this doesn't sound(to me) like ringland failure. I would take your intercooler off and check for oil, then take your downpipe off and check for oil there.

report back with what you find.

Alright will do! Recently, I did change the gasket behind the stock bpv to install my Perrin one.

I did see a bit of oil comming out of there. Could it only be the turbo seals?

i would say if that is the case then yes. if you have oil coming out of your intercooler that is not good. its okay to have a little blow by but if its coming out of your gasket that sounds like there could be quite a bit of oil in there.. i would check asap.

Look at everyone jumping on cracked ringland bandwagon. In essence it could be a cracked ringland, but there is no way to tell for sure until a compression test is done. Low acceleration could definitely be caused by a leak of some sort. Keep us posted!

Calling it now-low compression in at least one cylinder with a blown up piston
