Talking Stainless Impreza DOOR SILLS!!!

Hey,
Here are my new door sills! They are made from Stainless Steel with a brushed finish. These will extend over the entire stock plastic door sill section and will go up and over the top of the door and come out to where the carpet begins so you won't see the plastic under them.
These will attach using 3M double side adhesive tape, so installation and removal will be a snap.

Ideas for a laser engraving on them? I was thinking of offering plain pieces, and then custom engraving for an extra fee.

PRICES UPDATED 1/16/08!
Preliminary starting prices for silver brushed finish:
$99.00 shipped - Front Door Pair
$50.00 shipped - Rear Door Pair
$120.00 shipped - Front & Rear Door Set
(rear set needs to be made to price it still)

These will also be offered in Black Powdercoated finish at a higher price (awaiting quote).

let me know your thoughts

Looks very nice, but may I ask why the fronts are only $225 not even including the rears? This is starting to get into the territory of the Subaru door sills.

As far as engraving, I don't know about the WRX or STi logo going on there, maybe IWSTi if Kevin gives the approval, or even an anodized version? Custom colors, etc. People can always throw on a STi decal, etc to make it look nice without going against the trademarks, now thats an idea. Sell these door sills along with Subaru STi decals or WRX decals (OEM type, or even the ones that come on the side of the STi door).

the prices are preliminary right now. I don't have an inventory or any orders yet, and I still have to confirm the cost of them with my guy tomorrow. I started high because its much easier to reduce the prices accordingly than to raise them due to hidden costs

The rears will most likely be extremely cheap because they will have no bends, just flat cut stainless, so the price for a set of 4 will be only a bit more than a set of 2.

Final prices will be posted tomorrow afternoon after my meeting with my metal fabricator.

Sounds good!

I know people would like the andozied/powder coated different colors, that may bring more interest as people like to be different than others when they mod the car. What about the logos? Do you think you can use WRX or STi on them, or is the decal route better?

decals can wear off, but will be MUCH cheaper. You could even apply your own decals to the sill and there will be no trademark issues since I won't sell them with registered STi or WRX logos on them.

I may be able to get some powdercoated black, but that will cost some more.

I found a source for good polyethelyne double-side foam tape that is better than normal tape. This means it will seal off any moisture and air, will deaden sound and shock, and will adhere very well to the rippled surfaces of the plastic and bond to the steel.

That sounds better than the 3m double sided stuff. If you need any help or anything, let me know.

update: talked with my fabricator, looks like these things will be priced UNDER $200 for the front pair alone. I'm going to try to get the entire set of 4 priced around 200, but final pricing will be available later in the day.

The fit doesn't look that great. They look like they overhang the plastic sill below.

They have a slight overhang to closely match the edge of the plastic part. This prevents seeing the plastic below the steel, which looks much worse. I might try to put one more bend at the bottom edge to make it look a bit better, but from the side you see more shadow. From above, it looks just fine. Additionally, the foam tape (black color) will be applied along this outer edge to prevent dirt and moisture from going under the sill, so the tape will form a solid black barrier around the bottom edge of the sill.

Heres a view from more above, where you would actually see them

Not if applied via Die Sublimation. My buddy's company sublimates artwork/images on Stainless Steel all day long. It's bullet-proof. Die sub inks penetrate into the material through heat & pressure, not on top of it like silk-screen.

I was talking about cheapo stickers. Do you know how much it costs to have logos die sublimed?? Its probably a lot more than I am looking to spend to bring these to market

So, I had these sills on my car since yesterday. So far, everytime I open the door to get in, I see the shiny metal sills and it helps give the car a more classy up-scale feel. Its not tacky kind of class, but just makes the car seem better than with those plastic sills.

BUMP!

HUGE PRICE REDUCTION
These parts turned out to cost much less in bulk than anticipated. I cut my initial price in half, so post here if you would be interested so I know how many to make.

Yeah, it does look better from the top, but I like the idea of putting a bend at the edge.
