IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | Stats: 2005 STI 46,000 miles ![]() Power mods: -MRT Short Ram -1 Step Colder Plugs -Perrin EBCS -Invidia catlss TBE -Walbro 255 (JUST installed) Meth Setup: -Coolingmist Varicool -1 Gal tank -50/50 mix -Starts flow at 7 psi, peak flow at 15 psi, ramp set to 1, peak boost of ~22psi purchased from www.importimageracing.com I get my VP Methanol (98% pure) from Columbus oil in Swansee, MA for $4.50/gallon. I get distilled water from Wal-Mart for $0.60/gallon. That comes out to about $2.55 a gallon. I bought 2 VP jugs and one filler from Columbus Oil. I think the jugs were $20 and the filler was $8. Install took about 6 hours, and took a little fabrication. Pump and tank in trunk: Mounted the varicool controller in the glovebox. (flow indicator mounted on my a-pillar gauge pod) Cobb stage 2 I ran a 12.99 @ 104 protune plus meth I ran a 12.67 @ 109 (On a hot day) This summer I'd like to see a 12.4 @ 110, its deffinitely possible, Stock IC, turbo, and injectors. Tuned @ xx tuning in CT. ![]() I have had the kit for almost exactly 1 year, and I have gone through nearly 10 Gallons of 50/50. Actually, I need to make a trip for more meth next week. The meth is stored in a cool, dry spot that doesnt get sun in the basement. I daily drive this car, and LOVE the fact that it is an "on demand" system. In traffic I use zero meth, then when I need to pass someone it just kicks in. Winter I use maybe 1 gallon a month. Heaviest usage I had was drag racing on a friday night followed by an auto-x on sunday, and I used 1/3 gallon in 2 days. I have only had 4 problems. Problem #1 (2 months into it) Driving along and my flow indicator LED no longer came on. Did some troubleshooting, and determined the the small leads on the LED came undone. Good to know I immediately noticed the flow indicator malfunction though. Problem #2 (5 months into it) No flow indication again. Check the pump (fine) controller (fine) indicator (fine). Turns out the connection to the injector nozzle under the IC had let go. With the heat and vibration, it came undone. Coolingmist addressed the problem, and now have more solid connections. Coolingmist IMMEDIATELY sent me the updated compression fitting to replce the barb type. During troubleshooting, 50/50 was spraying directly onto my turbo, and it didnt burn the car down. Problem #3 (8 months into it) Flow indication stuck on. This worried me. If it was truly stuck on, it could fill my motor and hydrolock the engine. After troubleshooting, determined the pressure switch under the hood had bent due to the way it was mounted, and was binding the switch. I unbent it and mounted it better. Problem #4 (constant) Lack of traction. I run 245/45/17 Azenis rt615'S and it will break all 4 loose due to all the torque i produce. Murdered out my stock clutch (just put in an ACT 6 puck and streetlite fly) Yes, the stock turbo is small and falls on its face up top, but it spools so fast, that the torque is just incredible. Conclusion: I love the kit, use it daily, make great power. The problems I have had were minor. I highly recommend not only meth injection, but the Coolingmist kit and importimageracing.com . Feel free to ask any questions, but keep it about the meth, I have threads in "Wheel and Tire" about my setup This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
