Default Water Injection Question

I've done a search for water injection and saw basically what you expected. However, I wasn't sure how to search for this topic basically I just want to run water injection just for safety reasons. I've seen a few people do this but I was looking up turbos at the time and basically they used the water injection strictly as a safety measure rather then a power adder.

I'm really interested in using the kit for that purpose simply the fact i'm sick of being at the tracks waiting in line under the hot sun with the car on or doing multiple runs in a row only to hit worse times as you do multiple runs. People say yeah turn the car off and push it ok that might be fine and dandy when I used to have a civic but pushing an STI is not fun on a hot sunny all day event. Not to mention when we get hot and humid days in Chicago I see only 11lbs of boost.

So basically I just want to use distilled water only and would I even need a tune? I assume you wouldn't because it almost simulates as if it were raining your ECU should adjust to it with or without it? Also, I noticed coolingmist has a controller but really didn't see what its full function is now can I basically use that to turn off the water injection? I would want it off during the winter. Next thing what affect would I experience lets say its a 60 degree day and there really is no need for water injection so I turn it off would that make my car pull timing significantly since it is used to the colder air? Maybe i'm thinking about this the wrong way but if anybody already doing this please chime in would be of great help.

If you just add water injection and don't tune for it, your car will be a lot slower. I tried it. Many pro's say that even if you lean out AFR's and add timing, at best you will only make the same amount of power as when you were not running water injection. In my own experience, 93+meth is faster than I ever made the car go with 110+water.

I run water only. I followed all the "advice" on this forum and nasioc for tuning 93octane+WI. (leaned things out added some timing, etc....) I thought I was running pretty strong runninger 12 AFRs and 21psi of boost but doug made my map quite a bit richer (11.1:1 AFR) and upped the boost to 24-25psi and made a lot more power.

To take advantage of WI you will want to up the boost and advance the timing 1-2 degrees.

Looks like my only viable solution is going to be a front mount. I wanted a system that would be safe enough for me where I can turn the WI off and let the ECU just pull timing to what it needs to safely without harming the motor. I see you can't run WI correctly without advancing timing and leaning out the AFRs which would essentially suck arse if the WI system ever pooped on you completely. Thanks guys for the feedback.

Chances are you will lose time with a FMIC as well. What you really need to do is spend the money on EM first.

Even with EM, if the FMIC isn't tuned for you will still lose time and trap speed. OTS mapping doesnt really work here tuning for it is a must. FWIW going alky/meth will act like a FMIC by drastically lowering the incoming air charge while also giving you increase octane benefits. Way cheaper too.
