Default too much meth = knock?

I have a stage 2 07 sti with a meth kit. I'm running 100% meth tuned. My question is will spraying too much methanol cause knock? The term rich knock i believe. This occurs around 6-7k rpms for me as my knock light flashes. Can this be running to much meth or not enough?

what kit are you running with size injectors. My guess is either its not tuned right at 6-7k or your meth kit inst keeping up.

If it has just started this you need to change your plugs asap.

Meth eats plugs faster than normal, especially 100%. So your probably going to have to change plugs every 2 or 3 weeks if you continue to run 100% mix.

I suggest getting retuned at 50/50 as it is less corrosive to the motor.

I read somewhere that meth is a clean burning fuel and isn;t corrosive to plugs

oh my

It eats aluminun at 100% mixture

Ive been running meth 50/50 very hard for over 1 year and my plugs are shot in 2 to 3 weeks. The symptoms are slight missing (misfiring) above 6,000 rpms is the first sign the plugs are gone.

I've been on 50/50 for over a year now and everytime I check my plugs they're fine. Went 100% over a month ago and when I checked the plugs 2 days ago they were again fine. One step colder NGKs FWIW. And I'd like to know how methanol being corrosive to aluminum has anything to do with plugs which don't have any aluminum.

I'm using stock heat range NGK copper plugs maybe thats why, I dont know ....but my car is going through them like crazy.

Do you run your car to 7,000rpm that often......cause if you dont you'd never feel the hesitation that you get up there with worn out plugs.

When I take my plugs out they look fine also.....but there not. I went throught 12 sets in 6 months last year.

I auto X weekly and when I'm not autox'ing I'm at the drag strip so my car is spraying meth alot of the time.

I'm using 50/50 with dual spray nozzles.

I used 30 gallons of meth/water mix last summer for comparison's sake.

It just dawned on me ....maybe I'm using to much meth.

The meth eating aluminum comment was just to stress the point that Methanol is corrosive to metal.....aluminum especially.

I auto-x my car as well and no issues. I'm pretty certain your issue is the copper plugs. Any particular reason your using copper?

A couple of tuners in my area recommend using them, and from what I read about the plug debate is the coppers will make more power but you have to change them more often.

They will make a little more power but IMHO if your running anything less than a rotated setup and looking for that last little bit the coppers are not worth the effort and you would be better off with some stock plugs or maybe a step colder. I tune my own car and log almost every day and also log every auto-x run and haven't had any timing issues due to plug erosion. I run an 18g at 24psi with 100% meth right now and have about 12k miles on the current set of plugs.

O.K. I'll have to try stock plugs this summer and see what happens.

To the OP, you just need to change your plugs out.
