Transmission and Diff service

Did you change the trans and diff oils at 30K? My service guy(not dealer) says that it is not necessary right now.

It is definitely a good idea to do it at 30K. I think it says so in the suggested service intervals. Just tell him you don't care what he thinks and just do it.

I would do the trans service. If something happens and you have to show proof of maintenance, you mechanic won't be liable.

Also make sure they use the correct fluids. Some dealers don't realize the STi requires different fluid than the WRX.

I got my 30k service and they did the trans and rear diff also. He said that they used what the the manual requires because I was a bit worried about them using the proper fluids. I guess they use All Data to get their information.

I did not see anything about center diff fluid. Should this be changed also?

The dealer quoted me for close to $500. I actually got the service done for $375 at another shop.

Damn that is high. We are around $375 for a 30k for WRX/STI.

of the $500 quote, $350-400 is labor i bet.

Can you elaborate a little? I just had my trans and diff done as part of the 60K service, and now the tranny sounds totally different.

When I checked it at home, the fluid was low, so I took it back and they said something that really worried me - the tech who changed the fluid didn't know that you have to add some, drive a little, then add a little more to top it off. Needless to say, they added a little more. But it's really making me wonder if they used the correct fluids all around.

just did my 30k service. they said do the diffs and trans,but to hold off on the spark plugs until 60k miles .

there is a specific fluid from subaru for our rear diff. super 90pa or something. TiC stocks it IIRC. Check there or PM Clint.
