Default Extended warranty or not?

Hi guys- Does anyone know how subaru treats a warranty situation with mods? I have a new '07 and the dealer pushed extended warranty which I am still contemplating. Does it make any sense to get one at all? I know things get voided unless you use subaru backed performance items but there aren't much to choose from. Even an Access Port seems to kill it. What are the tips here? Stay with 3-36 from factory and save all your stock parts in case you need to take it in?? Thanks, Don Q

If you'd read the stickies, you'd find threads like this. The site is full of threads regarding warranty issues with mods. The short answer is that it depends on the dealership. If you're lucky enough to live near Subaru of Gwinnett or one of their ilk, you're golden. If not, you're looking at a hassle and a half.

If you are planning to mod the car heavily - in this case meaning stage 2 power, suspension upgrades, etc., then your extended warranty isn't likely to cover much other than the electrical system, and even that is questionable.

With that said, a dealership can only deny you coverage. Only SOA can void your warranty. And the burden is on them to prove that the modifications they blame actually contributed to the failure of whatever stock part you've asked them to fix. YMMV.

Thread moved to warranty subforum.
