This topic has been covered a bunch already.. do a search and you will find more info.

If you can change the oil yourself i wouldn't even bother with the dealer. If your just going to the dealer for an oil change, there is no reason the dealer will tinker around with your ECU unless you tell them something is wrong with the timing, misfiring, or something like that.

As for other things to have them look at, depends on how many miles you have. Check your owners manual and see what they recommend at each mile mark. Personally, i think it is much cheaper and pretty easy to do most of that stuff yourself. For me, the drive to the dealer, and then having them work on my car, and the drive back would probably take just as long / longer than if I did my own work. Plus I can sleep better at night knowing that nobody F'd with my car!

Don't forget to buy a Fumoto oil valve--best thing I ever bought for my maintenance efforts.

The Fumoto oil drain valve is only the best creation ever for the do-it-yourself oil changer.

Actually comes from the factory on some cars. I believe my friends Ford truck had one installed when he bought it from the dealer new.

It is basically just a valve that you screw into the spot of your drain plug on your car. After that, you never have to mess with you drain plug again. You just turn the knob, the oil comes out in a very controlled mannor. Then you turn the knob back to the closed position and you are done. I purchased the one with the "nipple" on it, which allows you to attach a rubber tube, so you can literally aim the oil to drain wherever you would like. I got my first oil change at the dealer since it was free, I have done two since and its a breeze. The only messy part is the oil filter, but after you figure it out (or just buy a large drain pan) then you will never see a drop of oil hit your driveway. Also makes it very easy to grab a sample of oil to send in for analysis if you are into that.

I purchase my oil filters from the dealer. Used normal 5w30 on my 1st and 2nd changes. At about 8k miles (I see you have an 04, so you probably have well over that), switched to mobil 1 5w30. Have not burned any oil yet.

Its your best option. The dealer charges an arm and a leg for an oil change, especially a synthetic oil change.

Trust me, it is well worth the money--can you imagine changing your oil simply by flipping a switch?
