Default Warranty

So I just dropped my car off at the stealership for tire rotation, and to fix some vibrations in my speakers and glove box, etc.. The service manager told me that My powertrain warranty has been voided because of my TBE and Cobb stage 2 map. I kinda expected this, but still depressed a little bit this Friday Morning. This is what I told him, F*** the warranty!

You took your car in for warranty rattles. You have a STI, rattles are a never ending problem here its not a Q35. You won't be saying that if something major goes wrong, these cars are not cheap to fix.

Well considering the guy was standing there asking me if I have any mods while staring at my exhaust, it was pretty obvious I could not lie. Besides, it's not really the AP that they are concerned with. You can't hide it if you have ever installed a TBE....the guy showed me some pics of some kid who tried to hide it by putting the stocker back on before taking it in. Now if you can obviously tell there was a TBE at one point, you obviously had some kind of EM, right? I figure there is no hiding mods from the dealer. I went there initially for a rattle in my right front speaker and decided to get the tires rotated as well, I had a coupon. Anyways, there is a TSB on the speaker rattle.

Just a note, only SOA can void your warranty. The dealership can only deny you warranty service. Also, the burden of proof is on them to show that the mods were what caused the failure. Read the Magnusson Moss information.

Thread moved to warranty subforum.

This is true. What he told me was the warranty isn't voided, but if there is a failure they may deny to fix if related to your mod.

Exactly. So you your turbo blows, they'll have a good reason to not cover it. But if your intercooler blows up (never happened, so bad example) or your radiator springs a leak, they'll more than likely fix it (or should).

There are dealerships that are mod friendly - these are usually places where the techs have modded cars in my brief experience. There's a guy at the dealership two blocks from me with an STi swapped GC8 coupe. Rowr.

Keep the dealership honest. I know it sounds like a full-time job, but don't let them bully you. Fair is fair, so you can't fault them for denying coverage on some things, but don't let them BS you and deny claims on unrelated problems.

they can't void your warranty and can only restrict/deny coverage if the modifaction can have proved to have caused the failure.

He is right.

I once had Ford tell me that they would not fix my power window problem because I installed flowmaster mufflers. I fought it and got my windows fixed.
