Default Clunking from struts

my rear struts are clunking, I know others have had this problem and have had it replaced under warranty...my question is for a suspension issue should I have any problems with getting it covered under warranty if I have a catback and intake? I know Subaru dealers are horrible with transmission issues if you have any mods whatsoever...thanks

Go tell them to eat **** if they don't cover the struts because of a catback and intake. There is no reason why they shouldn't unless they are idiots or assholes... or both. I seriously doubt you'd have any problems.

You should be fine. If they hassle you, remind them about Magnusson-Moss and ask them how exhaust and intake have anything to do with struts.

The replacements will do the same thing after a while. I just smeared some grease on the shafts & the clunk goes away (for a while).

My right rear is clunking but mostly when theres more than 1 person the car... I went to the dealer about it this past saturday and they said that its not bad enough yet to replace the strut... I did get free brake pads so i didnt complain

Im going to get my strut replaced before my warranty runs out.

strut clunk is inherent with our struts. You can go ahead and get these replaced by warranty and your new ones will eventually clunk as well. Take the 5-10 minutes it takes to jack the car up and smear some grease on the strut shafts and call it a day. It's really not worth the hassle to go to the dealer, force them to cover it under warranty, and end up back there when the new ones do it all over again...

they cant deny service because of those, if u had some like tein stechs and ur struts blew, i can understand that. if u had turboback and u fouled out ur o2s i can understand that, but they cant deny u struts because of something totally irrelevent to what the problem is.

That shouldn't be a problem. I have cat back and never had anybody from Subaru say something. I had the same problem and took it in for service. Supposedly it was a "mount". Well, last week the damn noise came back and I'm wondering what are they going to say it was.

its a combination of a piss poor strut and bad suspension geometry.

all of the information you seek is in the warranty/service section in a thread titled rear strut clunk log. it will be the sticky at the top of the page.

I anticipate this thread will get

both my rears replaced. I really dont think the greasing the shaft trick is worth it. it youre going to do it, do it right and either replace the strut (mine lasted 18-30k miles) or take the strut apart and re lube the seals. Just know, that there are 2 kinds of clunk. I can be cured by greasing the shaft, the other is a strut failure and the ONLY fix is to have it replaced.

If you decide to pull the strut apart and fix it yourself, do it quickly because the longer you drive on that clunk, the more damage you do to the seals.
