Default Service Question

So I brought my car in for some service, I think my 5th gear syncro may be going out (Grinds when shifting into 5th over 65mph) and I just have a question because I'm really curious. They looked at it and when I called to get an update they said they were waiting on a call back from a tech with Subaru, any ideas why they would have to contact an outside tech? It is a subaru service station..

Nah turns out they were on the phone with the rep to get authorization, and theres no one in the area thats trained to do trannys, so they want me to take it to Sarasota florida (about 130 miles away) to get it fixed.
