Just bought a 04 Aspen White STI with 35k miles in amazing condition. The owner was a 45 y/o guy and took very good care of the car.

The only thing that is not stock is a BOV - which will be replaced with the OEM valve as soon as I can find one. After asking the guy about warranty, he was kind of unaware that Subarus had a 60Kmile powertrain warranty.

I was a little shocked that he didnt know this. What sort of documentation do I need to have an effective warranty? Or do I just need to bring the car in to a dealership - as long as the mileage is below 60K or 5 years?


On a side note, if I replace the BOV with the stock recirculating one - and reset the ECU - will the factory fuel settings be back to normal? I have a feeling that this car runs rich as of now.

As long as the mileage is under 60k and the BOV is not there, most Subaru dealers should honor your warranty, which is a good thing. I dunno what the long term effects of running rich are.

You might find someone who does. Post it in the Private For Sale forums, here and on NASIOC. Someone's bound to want a trade. BE AWARE: you must be a member for 90 days (I think, may be 60) before you'll be allowed to post a for sale ad. Paid membership eliminates this waiting period.

I was also interested in a used 05 sti and it also had a bov and also a intake with a check engine light but the dealer said he will get rid of that. Wut does it meen when the car runs rich because of the bov. Thanx

Most aftermarket blow off valves don't recirculate into the intake like the stock bypass valve. This means that inbetween shifts, the car runs with more fuel (running rich). Having a rich fuel setting decreases performance.

But if you replace it with a stock one and recet the ECU - I'm pretty sure it will go back to normal.

OMG!!! I was gonna buy that car. Did you pick it up in the Winter Park area? My friend test drove the car and i was on my way down there to look at it and probably buy and the guy called me and told me you had just bought it. You actually did me a favor. i ended up with a black '05 with 19k miles, and for less money. lol Have fun with your new STi; i know i am!!!
