Angry Big paint chip!

This is BS. im working on hardwiring my escort tonight and my roommate comes around to sit in the passenger seat. he says "howd this happen?" howd what happen. theres big chips missing from my paint on the FR quarter panel. i can tell that a rock hit it by a scatch thru the chip, but the fact that almost a dime sized chip came off, and next to it two smaller chips is total BS. this car is 2 months old. since we all know subaru paint is so thin can i get this covered via warranty? this could def. be a rust danger situation.

sorry for the photo quality, cell phone camera with garage lighting.

They will NOT cover that under warranty.
Kind of like broken windshield glass from the rock hitting it.

i guess this seemed different. its not that a dime sized rock hit the car, something tiny hit the car and the paint basically wasnt sticking to the metal well enough and flaked off. any suggestions for a DIY (i.e.. cheap) but quality fix for it?

well its prob a few hundred bucks which isnt bad but not what i want when im saving for TBE. i could just wait until end of winter in case anything else happened. hope its not too much of a pain to paint match since the paint is a year old (2006) but sat on the lot for a year.

yeah i figure since the paint didnt magically fall off, something hit it then it chipped, dealer will prob say no. so i guess id touch up and just do many many coats to even it out until summer and ill get it resprayed.

Did the chip go all the way down to the metal or only to the primer coat? If it's on the primer coat, you should be ok as far as rusting in the short term.

Not sure ill check it out again after breakfast. its very dark grey underneath. so if the primer was white then its through that, im not sure what color the primer would be since primer is usually just black or grey.

thanks for the help man. i guess i AM the first person to ever ask a question about subaru's cheap thin paint and what kinda of problems it caused. Then theres the fact that some dealers will cover different things. so maybe my dealership will look at it and say wow sucks to be you, or "ok this is your freebie". thanks for being so helpful. you know that little gauge to the left with a symbol of a gas pump? that tells you when your fuel level is getting low. its in the manual too.

Depending on what your comprehensive deductable is, you may consider turning this into your insurance. Just a thought.
