Just change the pads. When I switched to Hawk HPS pads, the squeal while reversing stopped, for the most part (it occurs randomly, maybe once every month.) You can also take out the pads and lightly sand them and the rotors.

I wouldn't swap out the Brembos for another kit just because they are noisy; have you ever run racing pads? Now those squeal...

I wasn't planning on swapping all new brakes, just the pads. and no, i've never run racing pads.

wrong.

our pads squeak because thats what performance pads do. they also dust a lot because thats what performance pads do. the kicker is that the stock pads aren't even that great to begin with, so if you step up in performance you can expect either more noise, more dust, or more of both. its the nature of brake pad compounds, there is no such thing as a great racing pad that doesn't squeak, squeal, or dust.

don't get confused with a pad on its wear indicators.

no problem, we're all here to help. sorry if i came across a little dry in my reply

as long as you keep in mind that we're all driving a very thinly disguised race car, it'll help make the noises, etc. make more sense.

When I had frequent brake squeak in my old Acura it was a precursor to a real problem. I've had the squeak in reverse from day 1 on the STI and have never had a problem, consequently, I just assumed that it is normal for the STI (and not normal for an Acura CL-S).

got the car back today and it turns out that there wasn't a crack but a small amount of some grease that had gotten on the differential and looked like a leak. I can't remember what kind of grease they said it was either but everything supposedly is fine.

I had them look at the brakes and they said everything was normal.

back to resuming normal activity.

Squeeking is very much a normal sound, as twisties said even stock pads are a performance compound and cold weather can make them considerably noisier. For example my Ferodo DS2500 will be silent when its 60 degrees out, and squeek like a crazy when its cold or rolling backwards, my stock pads were the same way. Glad you got it checked out and everythings ok

yes, I have come to this understanding. i've never had performance brakes and most cars don't have them so the squeaking thing stands for most non-performance brake pads.
