Default How do you document your DIY oil changes for warranty?

I'd like to start changing my own oil, but what do I need to do to make sure my warranty holds up? I can write down the mileage that I change it at and keep receipts from when I buy oil and filters, but what if I buy in bulk? What are you guys doing?

I've been logging mine on at: https://my.subaru.com/login/login.jsp

Not sure what they require for proof, I mean even showing you bought the stuff doesn't prove you actually did it I had just been logging it for the resale value should I ever part ways (not likely!) with it. But for warranty I'd imagine thats good too.

I think when it's a warranty issue, they will ask for your receipts for all the supplies.

not enough, i would have to waste a ton of time fining my receipts.

plus, the 50+ oil filters I won last year...

i just hope she never needs warranty work. i do it all myself, and can't "prove" i did it beyond my word and receipts of consumables.

My dealership told me to keep my receipts (they also told me not to change my oil before 3000 because of "break in oil", but I did not listen) and everything should be fine. I don't trust dealerships, but I cant imagine they would be able to find a problem related to the changing of the oil since I do it so frequently it will always be relatively clean if I were to take it in for service. Has anyone had a problem with a dealership, and self maintenance?

On a side note, I do log a bunch of data in excel on my phone, like mileage, gallons, price per gallon, and whenever I perform any type of maintenance. I think I will start doing the my Subaru thing for fun.

$350-400 depending on the dealership. If they tell you anything higher and won't do it for less, walk out and go to another dealership.

If you really maintain it properly, I'm sure you'll be fine. I just stick my receipts in my maintenance book and enter the date.
