Default Extended Warrenty

I did a search, but didn't find any threads on this, so I thought I'd ask.

Subaru keeps sending me these letters about extending the warrenty on my 2004.

Years of ownership: 2.5
Milage: 10,200

Now as you know, there is a bumper to bumper warrenty for 36,000 miles or 3 years AND a drivetrain warrenty for 60,000 miles or 5 years.

The tricky part in their letter is their mentioning that "Added classic warrenty will cover any repairs to the engine, transmission, AWD, suspension, electrical etc.

But based on the original contract, my engine/trans/AWD is covered anyways for 60,000 or 5 years, does this sound right?

So based on my math, if there are 2.5 more years for the drivetrain warrenty and I'm buying an extended full coverage for 3.5 years, I'm just adding another year to my drivetrain warrenty and 3.5 years to my bumper to bumper.

The cost is $550 for the additional 3.5 years/60,000.

Is it worth it?

dont listen to them.

Think yourself.. Its very simple.

If you want to keep your car, go for it. Its nice to have factory warranty cuz it will save you lot of money in the long run.

I had it on my 03 WRX. When the car was totalled, I was given the option of a refund or changing the warranty onto my 05' STi.

well i opted for the extended warrenty and i think its great if you are gunna keep the car for a long time; and if you don't want it after some time they give you a refund on the remaining amount. Also the warrenty is transferable(sp?) so if you sell ur car just tack on extra money when you sell it because its still on ur car.

the guy i bought my extended warrenty from told me about how the last guy he sold it to just came in for his 3rd new clutch. He said if you upgrade ur warrenty they can't say anything to you for the 1st somthing goes wrong and they know you ****ed ur car, but in the case of the guy who got the 3rd clutch he said that they still covered it but had a "chat" with him haha.

For what it's worth, Consumer Reports has a full-page ad on the back on the Money section in today's USA Today. It reads:

I'm bitter about Warranty's..

I just found out that I voided mine by not having them do the 30,000 mile maintenance stuff that would've cost me 500 bucks.
Screw that

Your extended warrenty was void? Was that because the dealer didn't do it or it wasn't done at all so that voided it?

Does anyone have experiance with the Subaru Added Security plan?

As someone in the repair industry I am very leary of extended warranties but a factory backed extension intruiges Me. The 36/36 initial warranties is one of the best in the buisness............who else covers wear tear? So if the extension is anything like originall it would be well worth it.

They voided it because I chose not to pay the dealership around 500 bucks to perform thier 30k service.
There was no talk of it at all at the time other than me saying "no thank you" when they brought it up when I was there getting one of my free oil changes.
About a few weeks later I was informed by mail that my warranty voided because I chose not to get the 30k service.
I went back and looked at the original paperwork and it does mention that my warranty would be voided if I didn't have them perform all the periodic services, but I failed to notice this until it was too late.

You should request the remaining value of your warranty. They have to pay you that back.

I opted for it because what is $500 on a $30k bill and the fact that it is a turbo engine and things have a chance of going wrong mechanically. and with my luck, if I didn't, things WOULD go wrong the first day after 3 years (or 36,001 with the rate im at!!!)
