Default 2007 ECU/Driveabilitiy Issue recognized by Subaru

I am starting a new thread on this since the information is scattered over several forums and threads. I took my 07 STI LTD to the dealer to see if they had a solution to the inconsistant throttle response. You never know what car will show up when you press the loud pedal. Sometimes it is my 06 STI and sometimes it is a Hundai. The Service Manager and Tech after driving the car were in total agreement with my assesment and I was able to give them the feed back of all the other 07 owners that have commented in this forum. They also had my 06 STI to drive after driving the 07 LTD for comparison. After connecting their $10K handheld computer to the car and placing a call to SOA, the result was that there is no update. The dealer directed me to SOA customer care, 800-782-2783, make sure you have the last 8 digits of your VIN before your call. I was impressed with their response. They called the dealer to make sure that they had contacted the Zone manager and then called me back as promised. I am supposed to hear from them again today for the next step. Here is some interesting information, at least for me, that came out in my conversation with the Tech. In one thread, someone commented that the 07 STI Map looked more like an 06 WRX Map. The Tech shared that some of the WRX's have the same drivability problems. This also extends to some of the 06 Forester's with manual transmissions. With both of those issues, SOA is aware of the problem, but has no current fix. These are 06 MY and higher production numbers than the STI's and they do not have a fix! When I was talking to SOA, I mentioned that in my research many other 07 STI owners were experiencing the same problems, the rep asked where I got my information. I told her the internet and she immediately became much more responsive. I trully believe that we have power in our numbers and our ability to share information. I hope that other owners that are having the same problems will share their experiences here and not let SOA off the hook until the problem is resolved. It bothers me to have to buy an AP2, when available, and get a pro tune to solve a problem that SOA should have fixed before they shipped the car.

Is it that serious!? daayum.

I figured they made a more street friendly map, so it was smoother during part throttle inputs.

Nice!! I totally agree with you about SOA, they should not have released the cars with the current driveability problems others are having and like you said, it doesn't stop with the 07 STi Ltd., I've read where an owners of the new 07 Legacy Spec B are also having problems......

The title of this thread is a bit misleading, as it isn't a warranty fix yet...

Interesting though.

Agree with the importance of this being its own thread, but also agree that the title is confusing. How about shortening it to "07 Drivability Issue"?

Or "2007 ECU/Driveabilitiy Issue recognized by Subaru".

Strength in numbers! Thanks Tahoe. I will be calling when I return home.

Lets hope SOA continues to impress with their diligence in getting this resolved.

I said this. To clarify, this does not mean that fueling, timing, boost look more like an 06 wrx, but that the code and structure of the rom looks more an 06 wrx than an 06 sti. The only tables which are similar to the 06 wrx are the closed loop/open loop thresholds which in some cases are carbon copies which end up being at a higher threshold to switch to open loop (for example, TPS) when compared to the 06 sti. That said, the 07 sti ecu is still signficantly different than either an 06 wrx or 06 sti ecu. There are now 777 2d and 3d tables for 07, compared to 540 for the 06 sti and 704 for the 06 wrx.

The changes to the tune (very different from the 06 sti) and the "bulk" added to the 07 sti code does not seem to coincide with the relatively minor mechanical updates made for 07. This and the additional multiple conditional maps (ex. 6 fuel tables, 4 ignition corr tables) makes me believe that this was all done for emissions purposes, probably to meet the lev2 emissions standard. The by product may be part throttle driveability problems. Of course, this is all conjecture. What would help is for someone with an 07 to do some logging with Ecuexplorer or DD.

There wasn't a test drive. I owned an 06 STI and based on the information assumed the mechanicals were the same as the 06. During the first 1000 miles it really wasn't apparent. I then began to notice the difference around 1500 miles and spoke to the dealer. We agreed to have them look at the problem at the 3K oil change. I am now on my second visit with them. Now waiting for SOA. I will be very agressive with this issue. I have had a similar experience with Land Rover. California has great Lemon Laws and if necessary I will use it if SOA is unwilling to fix the problem.

First post here. I own a 07 sti limited.

I have noticed it and this is my first subaru. I test drove an 06 about 8 mos ago but it was a short drive, that was the only other time ive been in a wrx or STi. The other day i was even telling my buddy just wait until about 3500 and all hell breaks loose.. but under that it deffinetly is lacking.
