voided my drivetrain warranty shortly after i got the car with mods, however, i do believe the ext. warranty will come in handy later on with the A/C, power windows, electrical, and the like those little problems can add up quick!

I planned on modding from the start, so I didn't figure it was worth it.

I could buy 2 more extended warranties for the amount that my last one saved me... transmission, intake manifold gasket, complete power steering system, hub sensor, the list goes on. I have over $7k in warranty reciepts for my last car...

It wasnt so much that it saved my ass, because nothing ever catastrophically failed on the car, but they were just wrong enough to get them replaced by the warranty. The type of things that would have just ate at me because I wouldnt have had the time or the money to fix them. All in all I made out like a bandit. I paid $7k for the car, $1200 for the warranty. It had over $7k in repairs in the 2.5 years that I owned it, and I got $4000 trade on it from the same dealership after I put 50k miles on it, wrecked it twice, neither time my fault and total damage was less than $2k for both accidents. Incidentally a good friend of mine has a body shop so I was pocketing money after the insurance co. paid me based on their estimate minus the $500 deductible which I didnt get reimbursed on for the first accident (1st accident was a hit and run, though I caught the guy I couldnt prove it was him since he had already started fixing the damage). The second accident I pocketed about $600.

Back on topic, I figure I could buy this warranty off the money I saved from the last warranty and still come out ahead. Plus, you never know when something stupidly expensive will fail...

Do you just go to the dealer to cancel it? I will most likely update to an 07 before I keep it over 40K. I bought it cause it was only $9 in the financing.

You have to go to the dealer. Bring the warranty paperwork with you, and your STi.

I also hate the F/I Finance and Insurance people. When trying to sell me the extended warranty, the lady told me that if the turbo needs replacement it would cost $7000 if you didn't have the warranty, and you were past 36,000 miles. I laughed to myself inside, and kindly said no. She still persisted though!

Talking And there you have it...

Everyone has a different opinion.

Yep, got mine, but only spent $1800 for the gold and paid cash for the car and warranty. The car also as the 10 year 250,000 mile engine warranty as long as you let them change the oil and put in Auto Armor. With all the electronic crap on these cars, something is going to fail within 1000 miles of your standard warranty expiring. Better safe than sorry. And IMO, the idea of voiding a drivetrain warranty or any warranty on a car already built for performance is foolish unless you are modding for race only. Dyno figures and mile-long signatures don't mean squat and neither does street racing a Neon.

^ your stage 1 DID void the drivetrain warranty.

messing with the ECU, no matter who does it, is reason enough for Subaru to void.
