Default Rattle under partial throttle.

My 06 has developed a nasty rattle that can only really be heard under slight throttle. I sounds like it's coming from under the front passenger seat. I do expect rattles to happen, but this one sounds like a loud metalic type rattle.

If I'm coasting I don't get the sound, and if I'm into it at all (-3 PSI and higher) I don't get the sound. But when I'm barely on the throttle it rattles like crazy.

Please help me diagnose the problem, it's driving me nuts.

ok well here is one thing to look for, i was driving my car one day and experienced the same thing you are describing, except my rattle sounded like the there were 11 squirrels fighting a war with swords and armor....anyway it was BAD!!!! so the next day i put my car on the lift here at work and checked around and found that the heatsheild around the uppipe had broken the one tiny spotweld that holds it in place!!!! that was my rattle!!! so i got a prybar and turned it to put it into a bind...no no more rattle. so maybe check that!

Awesome, I'll check that out today.

And the Squirrel fighting analogy describes the sound perfectly.

Yea i had a really bad rattle on my car comming from the passanger side and it was the upper heatshield on the up-pipe that broke off. I took it off but left the lower one on since it wasnt broke. I tried to turn it to wedge it against something but it would always manage to come loose so i just spent the time and took it completely out of the car to get the heatshield off.

Does anyone know of another way to cure this rattle without removing the uppipe. I've tried twisting the heat shield to wedge it, putting a hose clamp around it, and stuffing heatwrap material down between the pipe and the shield. This all works for a little while and then the rattle is back.

How hard is it to remove the uppipe?

am I experiencing this heatshield rattle as well? I hear what sounds like metal flakes blowing around inside my intercooler. I thought it was coming from the exhaust until I opened the hood. It seems to be consistant around 800-1500 rpm then random.

I had the same problem, but I didnt have time to rip all the pipes out, so I wedged a 4ton hydraulic ram in there in an attempt to break the bottom welds, hoping the entire thing would come out. It spread it into a position that stopped the rattle altogether. I have a pic of it in my photobucket album, but I can't access it from work. I'll post a pic later.

wow i thought i was the only one with the elusive uppipe rattle...we should start like some kind of help club..."hi my name is corey and welcome to uppipe rattles anonymous"....lol ok seriously though. yea i was thinking of taking the uppipe off and removing it but i dont have the gaskets and it takes 30 minutes that i dont care to spend, and since you cant get a cutting wheel in there to cut it into i just pryed the sh*t out of it and wedged it...anyway i just wanted to ramble on about this some more!

+1 for the uppipe rattle, i hit 12,450 miles and all the sudden i would hear a metalic rattle on off throttle, went to a local shop and had them lift her up, used a crow bar and bent the uppipe piece that was rattling into a bind then no more rattle!! by the way i posted a threat in warranty and service and no one had told me to look at the up pipe.

Plasma cutter maybe...idk about the torch tho. If you look at my picture, theres a bunch of **** that I wouldn't want to put a torch near under there.
