Default CEL Code: p0327 Knock Sensor *NOT SOLVED, Help plz*

OK so I'm driving around today and around 4:15 PM my CEL goes off, I go to Advanced auto can get the code scanned this comes up

DTC (Codes)
"P0327 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input Bank 1 or Sensor 1"

DTC Pending (Codes)
"P0327 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input Bank 1 or Sensor 1"

They guy tells me that its caused by a few things and running too lean is a possibility. So I go and fill up on 94 Sunoco octane and hope for the best. He also cleared the codes BTW.

So I do my 25 mile run trip up the highway, car runs strong all the way threw, but I'm not smashing gears or anything just a steady 60-80 mph run up Interstate - 83. No codes, so I go to work and come out at about 9:30, start the car and the CEL is on again with the same flashing cruise control light, I head to another local Advanced Auto parts and get the codes scanned, same problems listed above.

I granny the car home (even though it has balls of power available and doesn't hesitate at all) and get on here and start reading more. (Keep in mind I've only owned the car about 5 days and I've worked all of them) I come to find that certain modifications can cause certain problems. Well this seems to be whats up because I bought the car slightly modified. Here's what it has.

APS Re-circulatory Valve *removed.
APS Cold Air Intake

The two MAJOR contributors to the lean problem that can be experienced by some people. Why am I not surprised, well on the upside I have the stock BPV from the car but I DO NOT HAVE the stock intake.

Is there anything I can do (besides reinstall the stock BPV which I'm doing tonight) to help myself out? Any recommendations or suggestions? Anything I can do to help fix the intake problem?

Thanks guys.

Update:

Removed the APS Re-Circ BOV, and reinstalled the original Stock BPV. I like the way it sounds more then the APS one. The code wasn't cleared so I don't know if that fixed it or not. The car deff seemed to pull harder, and faster. But until I have the code cleared there's not much I can tell.

Does anyone have any recommendations about the Intake part?

Update 2: I think its solved, only time will tell.

After doing some extensive reading and searching I found the battery reset procedure. I undid the negative terminal connection for 10 minutes and pressed the brake pedal numerous times. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and then reconnected it started the car and the code was gone. Hopefully it will stay gone.

The APS Recirculatory BOV is off and will stay off for now. Hopefully this is the end of my Knock sensor problems. If it is this topics will fall to the wayside, if its not i'll post back when the CEL comes back.

So my CEL came back, so im thinking that the APS intake is the cause, im going to call APS up and see what they say because there 65mm intake isn't supose to generate problems.

Past that, im going completely remove and re-install there intake with a new filter tomarrow.

Any other recommendations?

With the riveting support and recommendations from members on this forum I've decided to go ahead and remove the MAF sensor and clean it with CRC Electrical contact cleaner. Also replacing the air-filter tonight with the a AEM Dry-flow intake filter.

I'm also contemplating ideas on how to "cut" air to the car possibly creating blockages in the fender-well as to hopefully lessen the amount of air reaching the filter.

OK, I'm confused.

So here's whats up if anyone is following. The APS intake removed was very clean on the inside, no residue, no dirt or dust the filter had been doing its job.

However the filter was DISGUSTINLY dirty, and I mean I've seen nasty intake filters before but this one was FUGLY, the dirtiest filter ever.

Upon closer examination of the intake piping the top section that connects to the silicon hose inside the engine bay had "65" stamped inside of it, indicating its the 65mm version.

The plot thickens. Also the MAF sensor was COATED in some disgusting black ****, after a though cleaning and a 2 hour dry time I'm hoping this also will aid in the fixing of my STI.

The entire time I'm cleaning and replacing the filter and MAF sensor I had the battery terminals (positive and negative) both off. I also removed and refitted every section of the intake in a attempt to track down any leaks in the system.

Tony.

After more reading on this forum, it appears that these cars have a detonation problem (at least some do) and Subaru was working on a solution to it. I'll call my Subaru dealer tomorrow and see if they have any advice on it.

If so I'll take it there and have it serviced with the APS CAI on it, and hope they don't *****.

If not, then I pray that all the work I just did will pay off and I wont have any more problems for along while.

Ok so after a long night of tearing apart my intake and reassembling it and a full 8 hours of having the battery unhooked, I hooked my battery back up this morning turned the car and started the car only to have the CEL staring me right in the face immediately with a CEL with flashing Cruise light.

Strange, last time when I reset the ECU I got two days before the light came back on, perhaps this is a different CEL. I'll go today and find out, as of right now I think its something else.<O</O
<O</O

I will post the new code (if it is something else) today and search this forum about that one.<O</O
