Default help with warrenty issues

ok i know there is like a law/act or something that protects a cars warrenty against mods. and i know its something like modifications can only void the part of the warrenty that they interfer with. so bascially lowering springs cant void engine warrenty. and there is a name for this act im thinking it starts with an M. but i cant remember. but anyway i need help.

my suby dealership told me they wont warrenty my car any more because of strut bars, a system, and neons. which is complete bull****. what do you guys suggest i do to fight for my warrenty? thanks

what is it that you're having problems with, is it electrical? If its mechanical... Are you sure they didn't deny you because of that little bottle in your trunk?

i'm guessing here but the bottle is probably the bazooka bass tube made to look like a NOS branded nitrous bottle. It is mounted in the correct fashion (?) for a nitrous bottle though. Still the dealer could think that it is one or claim it is one or whatever.

As I see it they have you over a barrel, unless you are or someone you know is a high powered lawyer. Basically they can screw you over and unless you have the money to take them to court you are SOL. And in court they could just claim you had X mods which you could only deny with evidence from another mechanic and a lack of reciepts or credit card charges is not proof something wasn't done to the car.

Best bet is to take it to another dealer or call SOA.

Take off the neons for the love of all that is holy. Neons arent even street legal anyways.

Reason why: My sister had an 02 RSX that had neons intstalled @ Ultimate Electronics. She called me on her way home saying that "my car is leaving a black trail of something". I get home to see her oil pan had drained almost the entire supply of oil from it. Turns out the Asshat tech which installed the neons drilled DIRECTLY into the oil pan while running the wires to power them.

to answer your question: it is the magnuson-moss warranty act. hspn has an article about it on their site. essentially, it elucidates that a warranty cannot be blanket voided simply because mods exist. further, it places the burden of proof upon a manufacturer to prove that a mod cause a failure, only then can a warranty claim legitamately be denied (but you will likely have to sue to get this far). basically, the idea is that a consumer is protected from the following situation: you have a stage II sti with a broken window motor. obviously the stage II mods have no effect on the failure; remember that a warranty claim is only valid if a manufacturing defect is present. subaru cannot LEGALLY deny your warranty claim because of the mods.

now whats going on with your car?? if you believe the mods have nothing to do with the failure, bring them a copy of the act and let them know you've contacted an attorney as well as subaru. make them take the car in, if only for them to deny the claim. your car is an 06; most states have lemon laws that state if a car is in the shop 3-4 times for resolution of the same problem within the first year, the lemon law applies. while this may a very far reaching interpretation of the law (and a technically which only the most astute attorney MAY be able to exploit), it gives you a little leverage.

and please take off the neons. we need an image that says everytime you turn your neons on, god kills a kitten.

now. thank you that was the act i was looking for, ill deff be looking it up and taking that to my dealer. as for my problem there is a short in the wiring harness, its causing the car to not start when its cold and when it does start it hardley runs untill i get get it to rev up and hold it at 4 grand for a few min to warm it up
then it runs alright. now nothing ive done even touches the wiring harness there is no reason they should be voiding my entire warrenty. thanks for your help.

I was on your car domain page and was checking out the pics-
Is the wiring for the shift light still like that? And do you have N2O? I can understand why they would not want to warranty a driveability issue or electrical issue with all the wiring you have done or the nitrous...on a side not how did you hook up the shift light? This could be causing your problems?

If you tampered with rpm wire/ecu for shift light, this would give them a leg to stand on. 2 cents

All that electrical **** in there, I don't think you have a fighting chance... I hate to judge you on pics, but that shift light scares me. Infact the whole car kinda scares me... God only knows how the wiring for the neons, amp, stereo is. I think you are kinda f'ed. Good luck though.

first off, **** off. you come to a site where you're still a new member, asking for help, and tell someone who actually responded to your question to shut the **** up?? pathetic. try nabisco, i think you'll get along alot better personality wise. have fun with those neons.

second, you have electrical issues and you obviously have modifications which require tapping into the electrical system. are you suprised they aren't warrantying your claim?? a warranty claim is only valid if the mod didnt cause the failure, and it looks like they have more than enough ammo with which to prove this. get an independent shop to fix it cause i dont think subaru will, nor ought to, warranty such a situation.

edit: check out the pics on his cardomain (but he didnt mess with the electrical system
