Default good news for those breaking engine mounts!!

okay i know breaking htem is a pretty common problem, i broke mine in the first week and my friend with a sti has broke 2 already. well my subaru dealer called me today to tell me that suby finally realized this new plastic mount or whatever isnt holding up. so from now on they are fixing them with the old style (metal)

so in other words dont waste your money looking for new engine mounts. just break your plastic ones and suby should replace them for free even if they arnt under warenty any more. just a heads up!!

I didn't know that was a common problem . Is it more with 06's then 05's? All and all glad to see the that Subaru owned up and replaced them for you.

it is an 06 problem. The 06's changed to plastic to help quiet the engine noise down. I would say do yourself a favor and get some hardened metal mounts. If you are going to mod, you'll want engine tranny mounts anyway

Do you have anything in writing or similar so we can show to the dealer?

'04 and '05 have metal mounts, '06 has plastic. They were supposedly an "upgrade" intended to isolate a bit of NVH from the engine, but they plainly do not hold up to the torque. According to several forum members, '06 mounts are being replaced with '04-'05 mounts so this is definitely not a problem with all model years.

I sure would like to hear the TSB number for this.

Not quite, they have rubber mounts sandwiched in metal. Group N, the most desirable mounts available through Subaru, are hardened rubber. Metal mounts would be insanely loud.
