I did just that after my car being like 2 weeks old and then being in the shop for 26 or 27 days. By the way after I mentioned about the Group N mounts, the SOA people said they won't put them in. The when I mentioned Lemon Law because of the 27 days in for repairs they were "hand delivered" to the dealership next day. The only thing I had to do was sign a waiver that the new mounts had no warranty and the would vibrate more. Who cares? At least the motor is staying in the car!!

I have a friend who bought his STi just a little while ago and he replaced his motor mounts with cusco mounts. The funny thing is when they removed the stock mounts it came with 04 05 mounts instead of the 06 plastic mounts. His car was made in 02/06 which could mean subaru themselves realized this problem and fixed it?

It would be interesting to collect data and compare build dates. If that was the case, and Subaru changed the specs, how could they justify NOT retrofitting the plastic mounts?

Subaru most likely ended up using the 04 05 mounts after they found out that the 06 stock mounts are just not strong enough for the STi. I mean does subaru really want to continue making cars with strong engines but weak engine mounts? It seems like the early built 06 STi's had plastic mounts and Subaru could have easily fixed the problem by making sure the later generation of 06 models have 04 05 mounts.

Does anyone have an official Subaru site that states this retro upgrade?

How can you visably tell the difference between the 04-05 and the 06.

MY 06 was built in 05/06. I'd like to see which ones are in there..

If it was manufactured in May of 06, I can almost guarantee that yours has the "liquid filled" (plastic-ish) mounts. My 06 build date was 9/05, so it had the bad mounts.

I am not certain, but I believe Subaru started building 06 STI's with the stronger/non-plastic mounts(same as 05) once they recognized the problem. Unfortunately, this occurred in December 05 or January 06. I really haven't researched this much though.

But, your build date would definitely lead me to believe yours has the liquid filled mounts.

Check your hood insulator, directly above the oil cap, for any rubbing. If the oil cap is rubbing, then take the car to the dealership and have them check the mounts out. Or if you can get under the car and know where to look, check the mounts out yourself. Put the car on jackstands though! None of this crawling under the car with just a hydraulic jack between you and certain crushing.

I had pics of all of the broken mounts and my installing the Group N mounts (didn't go with the retro fit of the 05 mounts) but my laptop crashed.
