IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | ...and youll end up like the kid with a black STi at Van Bortel Subaru in Victor. I just took my car in to get it's alignment done.. with a discount at that.. freakin nice. but then I was chatting with the Tech after he was done and I asked him about the black STi out on the lot and he said it was tore apart on his bench right now. I asked why and he said the kid that had it didnt change the oil for 16,000 miles!!! He bought it new and never changed it. He needs a new block, turbo and I believe Cams. $6000 in parts and $11,000 total after Labor. I told the tech not to give him his car back because he doesnt deserve it.. I dont understand people. IWSTI Addict since: May 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | How did he make it that long? My last oil change interval I was on low after about 3200 miles, and I use synthetic that in theory goes 5k miles. Of course I did have a 3 hour trip up to chicago where I averaged about 110...that probably helped burn right through that oil. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | uh. you guys are nuts. Modern synthetic oils can survive much longer than 16,000 miles, especially in complex Japanese engines like the STi's! I bet the guy just got a lemon! |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | I should probably add that the tech showed how much oil was left in the car when he got it at the dealer. He held up a 20oz Pepsi bottle that was filled about 1/8th of the way and said "this is all the oil that was left in it" ....I couldnt believe it |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | I know the kid probably did it out of stupidity, but there are some cars that you can get away with such long oil change intervals. I was taking care of a buddy's '98 BMW 540i while he was overseas and the car will go at least 14000 miles between each oil change. While I was driving it it hit 16000 miles before I had to change the oil. But then again that particular car holds ~10 qts of full synthetic and a MONSTER oil filter. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | 16,000 mile oil change ![]() Maybe he put in Mobil 1 extended performance that guarantees 15,000 mile oil changes ... oh wait, he went over by 1,000 miles ... This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
