After reading the post I think the thing that killed the car was the fact that he let the oil level get too low. Had he at least kept it filled the engine probably would have been just fine.

Oil longevity isn't the issue here, keeping oil in the car is.

This reminds me...

1. How often should one change his muffler bearings?

2. Where is the blinker fluid reservior?

3. Where can I buy a new 710 cap?

+1 My mom's '93 500SEC got 10,000 mile oil changes at the dealer and not only was the oil level well within tolerences, but it came out fairly clean as well. Of course, the Germans make engines that run like sewing machines, so they can get away with intervals like that.

The kid with the STi however, is a tard.

Not defending him because he should have looked at the manual, but I also have an 05 BMW and I just got its 1st oil change at 15,500 miles which is normal. The STI on the other hand has its oil changed every 3k.

^^^^^Regardless of the interval or the amount of oil left in the engine this here just seems to fit perfectly.

What I don't get is how the oil level ran low...that's what killed it as Mykl said. But if the car was brand new, then the oil plug was tightened at the factory so there shouldn't have been any leaks. Bet that kid must've been burning oil or something.

I know people that go for that long or longer without changing the oil. The ladies i work with went a year before getting an oil change. I cringe everytime they tell me that.
