Default 30,000 Mile Service @ Home <~~~ Pics

Decided to do the 30,000 mile service myself @ home. Hopefully all goes well. Just need some advice on where to get the rest of the stuff. So far I got...

Still need...
Tranny Fluid
Diff. Fluid
Brake Fluid
Fuel Filter

I am trying to get FULL synthetic fluids..so does anyone know what is a good brand and where to buy it (either from a site or local stuff, i'm in san jose, ca)

So from my knowledge and what I read, I need to replace/change oil & filter, coolant, tranny & diff. fluid, brake fluid & rebleed, fuel filter. And the rest is inspection items correct? (inspect tires, brakes, brake lines, etc.)

Anyone who has done the 30,000 mile serivce themselves...any words of advice?

Awesome start!!

I'd say stick with Royal Purple for tranny and dif fluid. Not to sure about brake fluid and fuel filter. My guess would be some aftermarket for the brake fluid and stock Subaru fuel filter...

It's common knowledge that Subaru can produce excellent products... (black oil filters)

I almost certain they do. I think I saw it at our Auto Parts store on base.

I'm no where near 30k miles. I have an '05 with only 86xx miles.

I'm sure more peeps will chime in...

Yeah I am running Royal purple in my tranny and rear diff. this has only been for about a week but so far it is working great. I also did an autocross and I didn't get any wierd rear diff locking up or anything.

@ SpYdEr2723

Do you have any experience with cold weather while running RP tranny/dif fluid? Not sure how cold it gets in NM...

Motul is good, but ATE SuperBlue is almost as good and it costs less. If you plan on changing it and leaving it for a long time use Motul, but if you autocross or do track days and bleed your brakes often SuperBlue is just as good. The difference between the two is that Motul has a much better wet boiling point.

If you're going to do your brake fluid I strongly recommend a set of speed bleeders. I flushed my fluid last night and it took all of fifteen minutes to do by myself.

Is there anything wrong with the Subaru factory fluids for the transmission and diff? Since I do a lot of autocrossing and track days I'm on an accelerated maintenance schedule. I was going to stick to the Subaru stuff unless somebody can give me a good reason to use another product.

Honestly I would have stuck to the OEM stuff. But when I called my dealership they said "oh we just use ATF in those tranny's, and for the rear diff just whatever is in our big drum." That did not instil confindence and I didn't want to order it cause I just had my tranny serviced there so I think I had ATF in my tranny and I wanted to get it out as fast as possible.

I wouldn not use synthetic fluid in the tranny. I did, and it was great for ~1,200 miles. It then started to grind, progressivly worse, until it ground shifting normally, into any gear.

The fuel filter listed above is not for an STi. You don't need to change it yet. Look in your service manual.
