ORIGINAL EMAIL QUESTION.
I'm sure you get this question asked a lot. I'm interested in installing aftermarket products on my Subaru. I am interested in getting 2 things added to my car. A catback exhaust and a higher flowing intake. No engine management or any other internal components will be touched. SUpposedly the gas economy goes up a bit as well. Please give me YOUR interpretation of this situation. Thanks.

Dear Mr. Nguyen:

Thank you for visiting the Subaru Website and for your inquiry.

As you may or may not know, Subaru does not recommend the installation of non-Subaru aftermarket parts or accessories. Our Genuine Subaru Performance Parts were created specifically for use with your Subaru and have been extensively tested for safety and reliability. We cannot condone or encourage the use of parts Subaru has not created or tested, as we have not tested other manufacturers' or aftermarket products on our vehicles. Installing non-Subaru aftermarket parts will not affect your warranty; however, any problems by or as a result of the installation of aftermarket parts would not be covered by your warranty. The owner would be responsible for such repairs.

Our line of Genuine Subaru Performance Parts has been carefully designed to make your vehicle even more fun to own. Engineered specifically to enhance the performance, endurance and, in some cases, the look of your vehicle, these Genuine Subaru accessories allow you to customize, without asking you to compromise the quality and integrity of your Subaru.

Installing Genuine Subaru Performance Parts is a smart, safe choice for purchasing the best available parts and accessories for your Subaru. Subaru engineers design and tailor these parts specifically for our vehicles for the enjoyment of Subaru owners just like you!

Once you have reviewed the dozens of available Performance Parts, contact your local Subaru dealer for prices and availability. Your dealer should be able to answer any questions you may have. Also, you can view technical information and purchase Genuine Subaru Performance Parts on the web at http://www.spt.subaru.com. A genuine Subaru catback exhaust is available and an intake upgrade is planned for release this Summer in June.

Thank you again for contacting Subaru of America and for your request. If we can be of further assistance to you, please feel free to contact us again.

Best Wishes,

Samir Hasan

Well at least he said it wouldn't break warranty, and anything broken related to the aftermarket part wouldn't be is also true by law.

That sounds like a typical manufacturer's response to me. What were you expecting to hear?

That would be like asking PepsiCo if they recommended Cherry Coke as an alternative to Wild Cherry Pepsi

Seriously, of course they are going to say, "sure, you can put a catback exhaust on... as long as it ours"!

I didn't see a catback for the STi listed on the SPT page... is there really one?

Just axlebacks to the best of my knowledge, even on the expanded lists from other markets.

Whats funny is those SPT parts are probably outsourced to be made by an aftermarket company. Hell, Brembo is an aftermarket company and they produce the brakes for the STi.

I know for the SRT-4 that AEM/DC sports was subcontracted by MOPAR for the Mopar Strut Tower Bars and Cold Air Intakes.
