I recommend buying those low profile ramps for oil changes. I got mine at Walmart, and they don't scrape, you drive right up, and it's so much faster and less of a hassle. I cannot imagine using a jack and jack stands anymore, unless I am rotating my tires, or checking my brakes, ect ect.

Does anyone remember the link to the high quality low profile ramps someone posted about a while back. The ones I have are too steep for my pinks and v-limited coming.

^^ i use the oem filters. they work just fine for me and haven't leaked. royal purple is a nice choice. costs a little more and may be a little more difficult to get than other brands though. many people also use mobil 1 synthetic.

which one did you get? the F105 or the F105 with the nipple? did you have to order any other parts with it (adapters)?

10w-30 should be fine as long as it's not too cold. otherwise, 5w-30 may be a better year round choice imho. another option is to use heavier weight oil in the hot summer months and change to a lighter weight oil in the winter.

Rhino Ramps from Sears ftw. For anything else under the car (downpipe, shifter bushings, etc) you'll want a good jack and jackstands as low profile ramps don't get the car up very high. But for an oil change, they work great. Also, there's a sticky somewhere comparing various filters. Not sure if it's here or nabisco.

I got the one with the nipple, no adapters required. I put it in during the last change so I haven't tested it yet. I was planning on changing the oil today so we'll see how it goes. When I put it in, the nipple seemed to hang down a little lower than the oil pan and made be a bit worried that it could get hit if I bottom out. When I change the oil today I'll look more closely at the clearance and report back.

OK, I have a noob question about the Rhino ramps. I got them a couple weeks ago and used them with my wife's minivan. When I backed the van off them, about halfway down the ramps broke loose and shot forward. The van dropped like a rock with bottom of front fascia kissing the top of Rhino ramps. Luckily the van's nose didn't get bent or damaged.

As you might have guessed this was on a smooth concrete floor and I was probably backing down too fast (my first attempt with the Rhinos). Regardless, I've been reluctant to put the STi on the ramps for fear that if the same thing happened, there could be more serious damage due to the lower amout of clearance.

I've heard one recommendation to use a sacrificial bathroom mat to give the Rhinos more grip on the smooth concrete. But it seems there are others that are having no problems with the Rhinos on a smooth floor.

Comments, advice, and flames welcomed.

I've never had this issue when pulling a front well car onto ramps but I have when it was a rear wheel drive car. The rear drive car would push the ramps forward on the concrete floor. I'm sure that there are many simple remedies but I've got a really nice floor jack and four jack stands that I use for just about every thing now.

Thanks for the thread guys, I'm definately going to start changing my own oil. I'm tired of the risk I have to take whenever taking my car to the dealer.
