You may be right. As for them denying there is any clutch problems, and pointing out other mods that may not be there, they are likely striking back to the experiences they have faced with customers trying to take advantage. More or less that's just a game they are playing, because many times dealerships lose all respect when someone takes a modded car in trying to get repairs, due to the tools that have walked in that place, lying through their teeth and demanding they repair the vehicle, or they will sue. It's kind of tough for me to bash the dealership, because people try and take advantage of them all the time, and they tend to develop attitudes, much like we do. It's a two way street. They screw us over, we screw them over. One of the key reasons why they deny warranty work comes from the fact that people have abused the system, and not taken proper care of their cars to insure longevity, only to blame the dealership when they refuse. They also have tendency to do the same thing, unjustifibly. It's kind of a tough argument, but I have to be honest in saying if I ran a dealership, I'd probably do the same thing, much as the rest of you would do, if you can really allow yourself to be in their position. Now if that car was bone stock, and never modified, I'd be fuming from all angles, and letting them have it.

A newbie can burn the clutch on a stock car in that many miles.

When you're taking your car in for a warranty claim, think, have you ****ed it up yourself by not knowing how to shift?

I have Prodrive springs on my car, so from a dealer standpoint it has been modded. I have driven clutch for 35 years. I do not launch, I do not sidestep, in fact I am downright gentle with the clutch in my car. If my clutch goes bad within the warranty period, they damned well better cover it.

But like others have said: if I did launch my car a lot, from drag racing or whatever, or if I otherwise abused the clutch (and all kinds of other parts, as far as that goes), I would not go crying to my dealer about premature wear. You gotta pay to play.

Heres another update:
Dear Mr Simmons:

Thank you for contacting Subaru of America, Inc. I am sincerely sorry to learn of the difficulties you had encountered at Lester Glenn Subaru, as described in your e-mail.

Please be assured that we are sincerely interested in assuring that our customers receive the best possible service from all Subaru dealers. We hope that each dealer treats their customers with respect, courtesy, and professionalism.

Even though I regret the circumstances that prompted your letter, I am pleased you took the time to write and share your situation with us. I would like you to know that this information will be sent to our regional office that works directly with our dealers on such issues.

I took the liberty of calling the dealership and spoke to the service manager Zena Abrogado. I have asked Zena to fax over documents for the repair order and I want to have the case reviewed by a senior representative to see if we should get involved.

If you have any questions regarding this response, please call us at

Hmmmm, seems like a decent response. Kinda a crappy situation though. Who knows if the clutch would of blown if you didn't have the mods. My clutch on my STI blew at around 18k when the previous owner had it. Fully covered under warranty. I think that these drivetrains just weren't built to handle this much power...

+1 for SOA, at least they respond to the consumer and stand behind the product.

You said the car is modded, what kind of power figures are you making?

Oh come on, who builds cars to handle blatant abuse? They handle power just fine, nothing handles abuse, nothing. People that wear these clutches from poor driving habits, racing, or making obscene power should not expect them to be covered.
