Default 2nd Time Wiper Motor Failure

About 6 months ago my wiper's just quite working, took it to a local dealership and I was told the wiper motor quit. It was covered and now my Miles have expired so I think they still have to make good on this b/c it started under warranty.

Now after washing the ride, I turn them on to clear the windshield and they move slightly then nothing. No fuse's blown, Is this thing even fused? I have searched this and other forums and heard nothing about my situation with anyone else. Could this be a faulty switch possibly?

As for mods I have a Fused Hardwired V1 detector and thats it ever. Never a issue with this, tee'd off the Overhead light power and ground.

This is the first I've seen or heard about wiper motor problems on the STi. The replacement motor gets a separate warranty, check with your dealer as to exactly what it is but usually they are 12 months.

I dont know if you have access to a test light, but if you do, you can diagnose this problem to get a better understanding of what is happening.

Take the test light and find a good ground then touch the positve lead to the battery + to make sure it lights (AKA making sure your ground is good)

Next, back probe the connector to the window motor with your test light (Stick it into where the wires feed into the connector) IN doing this, you can read voltage without having to splice into the wires.

Have someone operate the window wipers and check to see if your test light goes on. If it does, then your motor is gone and it was just **** luck that your second motor overheated (or you operated it when they were frozen and the motor overheated). But if it does not light, then your wiring is messed up somewhere that is causing intermittent failure

Because your fuse is intact, you know that your not drawing too much amperage, so it is a fault in the wiring which you can check easily (look for breaks in the wire)

I hope this can help you if you decide to try and fix it yourself rather than get out-of-warranty work.

Good luck bro,
Josh

I am going to the dealership at 8am tomm, They need to look at it they said. Wich is basicly just a waste of my time I know its the motor. Then I will have to go back for the Install.

What happens if this does this again? Would the car fall under the lemon law?

Dropped the car off this am, They figured out the Wiper Motor was the problem again. There is no Fuse in the engine bay, The Tech told me the power mirrors and the wipers have there own fused link. I have no problems with my mirrors ever? They also had no explination of how or why this has happened? Im going to call DMV to figure out of the lemon law applys here.

It was Sunday Jan 29 when this happened. Its rained straight untill today till I could get the car there.

I was going to try this but was adviesed buy the Tech not to touch it. I have never touched the wiring only the Dealership has. I deff think I have some freak problem in the harness someplace.

I called S.O.A. today just to document the 2nd Motor failure in 10 months, then advised me to call the State generals office so see where this would fall in to the FL lemon law if it happened again. Calling the Tampa office tommarow to get the scoop..
