evry dealer is different. i worked at one of the few that was pretty decent. we worked on every tranny, did all the heavy duty work, warranty or not. if it truely was warranty, we did it that way. i can gaurentee you they said they won't do it because they DO NOT KNOW HOW. if it stays at that dealer, you will almost for sure get a new tranny . there is alot of so called suby gold techs that won't touch STi's , they are scared of them . i've seen them not bleed the brakes right, hell one thought the dccd was aftermarket! the first thing they do when they see one is look for aftermarket parts. but things like a k&n drop in, they don't give a crap about, **** my dealer sold those. good luck, if they told you it's warranty already, then they can't back out.

damn Cicio! that is a load of bull!

i heard that some dealerships take easy warranty work so they get more "bang for their buck" - maybe that is the reason that dealership manager said that and why SOA were pretty upset?

That's just crazy. I do believe, though, that they would probably just replace the whole transmission than actually work on it. It's probably more cost effective for them to just give you a new transmission. Then SOA will send your old one to be fixed somewhere for cheap and sell it as a refurb.

Well heres the update.

SOA found me a dealer that would work on the tranny. Its only about an hour from me, and they are going to take it in on Monday.

They will warranty the Clutch, and the Syncro (pull apart and rebuild it) for no cost, and they are giving me an 06 legacy to drive for the week while it is down.

So its all good, Subaru takes care of its customers.

The guy from SOA must have reamed the dealer that I went to originally, the guy there wouldn't even talk to me when I went back to get the car.

I knew that the dealership didn't know anything about STi's when I was waiting I asked the head salesman about trading my 05 for an 06, and he told me that they would give me 20grand for my car, and probably loose money on it when they sold it. HA..my car is an 05 with 10k..give me a break its worth like 26-27 easy.

Anyway, it all worked out, thanks for the support.

Im very happy to hear that your problem is almost resolved and that SOA reemed that dealer. Lots of dealers that I know need that kind of treatment.

After waiting an hour they come out and tell me that there is a problem with the transmision. I am thinking "no...really??"

So the tech says that he needs me to leave it there over night so that he can check it out first thing cold in the morning.

No problem I say, and I get a ride and leave.

About 2 hours later the service manager calls me. He says "You car has an internal transmision problem and we can't fix it!"

I replyed what do you mean you can't fix it.

He says "you car has a specialty tranny, and needs to go to a specialty transmision shop for repair".

I was like "specialty transmision shop..they don't do warranty work, you are a subaru dealer, that is the stock transmision that comes in a stock subaru, there is nothing specialty about it"

He advised me to get another dealer to work on the car as they would not touch the car, and I needed to take it someplace else.

I asked if it was warrantied, he replied "yes it is totally under the Subaru warranty, but we WILL NOT work on it.

I almost slapped the guy. I tell you what. I asked him if he had any suggestions as to what dealership I should go to..he replied "Anyplace but here"

I couldn't believe it.

Anyway, I called SOA, and the guy was PISSED..he asked for the persons name that I talked to, and the dealership name, and told me he was going to have his manager call them imediately! Told me not to pick up my car, or contact them untill I heard from him.

Some dealerships think they can feed a line of bull to anyone, and get away with it, its rediculous.

O yeah, and he also told me that if I had a K&N filter it voided warranty. I was like WHAT..you have to be kidding me.

Wow..ok I am done bit*hing.
I don't understand why a dealership would deny you warranty work, especially if it's covered. The dealership gets paid by Subaru for doing the work. That's why you don't have to.

that proves it, they didn't how to work on the tranny. hell the lead techs would fight over doing warranty trannies, it's easy $$ for a flat rate tech. **** even my novice ass has rebuilt a tranny within warranty time

There really are very few techs that actually can work on the STI tranny. In my shop there is one guy that can. Most can rebuild a WRX tranny no problem, but our tranny is different. Since they didnt have anyone qualified to work on it, I wouldnt let them touch it. Find a dealer that can take it out and send it to SOA in New Jersey. Let them have their Master techs at the headquarters fix it. Unless you have stripped teeth on the driven gears your fine. If its a bearing or syncronizer cone or baulking ring its covered. I have a grind into 5th when its warm, they will be rebuilding my transmission at my shop. As soon as I can pry the car out of my hand. Peace
