Default Just a lil' update on my NEW engine;)

I got word from Subaru today that it is 100% covered under warranty. I'll be getting a brand spanking new engine in my STI next week. Has this happened to anyone else (a blown engine?)?

They haven't told me exactly what was wrong with it, just that it was 100% covered. BUT, the SOC rep told me, when things were getting heated and I was getting pissed,: "look, we're mostly likely going to cover this man. We'd pretty much have to get a NASA scientist in here when we open the engine up to prove it was driver negligence". So, other than that I can't really tell ya much. What happened was that I bought it with 49'800kms on it. At 50'500 kms I started hearing a very, VERY bad mettalic rattling from the engine. I took it in and my oil pressure was down 5lbs and they told me that the engine was on the verge of blowing. They said they had to take the engine out and send it to SOC (I live in ontario so it's Subaru of Canada here) to make sure it wasn't driver negligence. They also tried to get me to sign a $2000 waiver which stated that IF it was negligene I'd have to pay them $2000 AND they weren't liable for putting a new engine in it. This really worried me but I talked to the original used car dealership I bought it from and they said they would FULLY cover ANY cost to me because it's their policy to warranty the used cars they sell for a certain number of kms. This is when I had that conversation with the SOC rep. It's now about a month or so later and I SHOULD have a new engine in my STI within a week or two.
Oh, they also arranged for me to have a rental car for a large portion of my down time (2006 Nissan X-trail). Apologies to those people who just wasted their time reading my story. heh. Cheers!
-Shane

P.S The dealerships I dealt with were:
Original Purchase: ACURA OF NORTH TORONTO
Subaru Dealership that is servicing it: Barrie Subaru

I'd recommend these two dealerships without ANY hesitation to anyone. EVERYONE has been excellent and extremely helpful at each of them. Esepecially Neil (subaru tech), Rick (subaru dealer manager), and Sean (acura dealer manager). Awesome guys.

Shaner

My engine just seized up last week under normal driving conditions. They are crating it up and shipping it from Edmonton to Toronto so Subaru Canada can have a look at it. Probably put it on the bench right beside yours!! Can you tell me more about what happened or drop me a PM?

I only have very minor mods, AI, flywheel, oil catch can, gauges, grounding kit. I don't anticipate any hassles but I'm skeptical.

Shaner

I posted in your other thread. My engine just seized up last week. The 10th of January to be exact. 53,000km's, driving along, oil light came on, rear dif temp, then it just cut off. Started it up, kind of tinny rattling sound but nothing fatal. Drove for a block, it wasn't running right, it cut off again. Called the dealer and had it towed.

They have pulled my engine and are shipping it the 2,500km's to Subaru Canada in Toronto for their techs to have a look at. Sounds very similar!! I see you are a new owner. I'm the original owner. My car has been well looked after, never raced, simply driven like an STi

The two instances sound similar.

Not sure what MY oil level was when I brought it in but he said the pressure was down about 2-3lbs. Also, he said he 'might' be able to find out but it would take some digging with SOC and even still they probably won't tell. I don't really feel like causing any more of a stir already. I'm happy with my new engine. Who knows, maybe I'll ask one too many questions and my warrany will mysteriously dissapearhehe.
Oh btw, I'm picking it up in about 3 hours (they phoned and said its ready!!) so I'll let all y'all know how she drives with a brand spankin new engine!!

congrats shaner. glad everything went well. and you are definitly right abiyt the asking too many questions...SOC waits for things like that to just create an issue and void ure warranty and with the way its setup they can do anything they want and u cant do anything about it .

Thats BS. Its your car and you deserve to know what happened. If Subaru is that bad about communication then its time to move to a better brand!

There is no reason why they cant tell you what the deal was.
