Default Getting struts replaced under warranty but.....

I have the hardened top strut mounts so I was wondering, what's going to happen when they replace the struts? Are they going to try and replace these too?

As part of procedure they will replace the strut tops. I just requested that they didn't change mine when they replaced the strut.

I would just tell them not to touch the the hardened top strut mounts. If you really want to go to exptremes.. take pics of the mounts already in the car.. so if they take them out.. you can prove that you had them in there.

I doubt they would change them out. They probably ONLY get the strut. You know they don't get the spring also, so why would they get a new mount?

Just curious, but were you guys running stock springs when you got the clunk? My local dealer turned down replacing a strut under warranty on a friends STi because he had the pink STi springs. I have the same issue and the same springs. I bought mine from a dealer with them already installed but unfortunately that dealership is several hours away so I might just be screwed.

Yes, there has been reports of people with stock suspension getting the strut clunk.

Iam not getting them under warranty for the same reason, because I had the clunk, but its gone now...

Yea they wouldn't replace mine because of the tanabes, but at the same time, aren't they replacing them with the same struts? Just seems kinda pointless because most likely the clunk will come back.

BS!! I would be all over those bastards!! It is more than a well documented failure of Suby with our struts. I would would be gathering names and threating them with a law suit.... Sheesh

I have the pink springs and i had my struts replaced under warranty. My dealer told me since the pinks are a subaru aftermarket part it doesnt void the warranty. If i had put any other spring on it would have voided my warranty.

I think we have found the root cause of the strut clunk earlier this year. It's a manufacturer defect on the strut piston sleeve which causes lubrication to wear off.

The lack of lubrication causes the piston to bind. Under slow damping conditions (going over slow bumps, acelerating, decelerating), the stiction causes the strut to clunk against the strut top.

So, lubricate your strut piston/shaft and the clunk will go away, I promise that.

Don't go nuts going to the dealer to have them replaced, because it will come back eventually.

Use Mobil1 synthetic grease ($7.99 a can @ Riceboys, I mean Pepboys ) and you'll see the results.

WD-40 is too thin of a grease for this job. White lithium grease also works.
