It's nice when the stealership goes the extra mile to wash your car. My wife's Saturn gets washed every time she takes it in for service. You mean to tell me that a $15,000 car gets washed, but a $31,000 car doesn't? What the hell?

When I dropped my car off at the dealership on 11/30, it had exactly 172 miles on it! Talk about a f**kin' lemon! How can things go wrong so soon? I can tell right now this is a sign of things to come. I don't have the 5th gear grind that you're talking about but it's only a matter of time.
Sorry to say, man, but a company isn't just going to "eat" a $32,000 car. You simply got a lemon. How can things go wrong so soon? Who knows? But i'll tell you what, I'd be pretty furious.

Wow, sorry to bring up an old sore subject, but I am seeing similar instances in my STi. The car will shift perfectly, engage tight, and almost "click" into each gear. Out of the blue randomly, 3rd and 5th gear will not feel like it usually does. Almost as if the throw is half as long as usual. When I get on the throttle inbetween a 3rd or 5th gear shift the shifter will pop out of gear. This will go away though and is sporadic. It hasn't happen in months and happened today at lunch.

help: my Louisville KY 2006 STI can't get 2nd, 4th, 6th & reverse gears ...

I was driving down the Waterson Expressway with my son and his friend, doing 55 in 5th this afternoon.

Then, tring to get into 6th ... the gear won't slip in.

There was a muffled grindy kind of noise when I attempted.

So I stay in 5th, tll I get off at the first exit.

1st gear is fine.

Can't get into 2nd gear.

3rd gear is fine.

Can't get into 4th gear.

Make it home.

Try to backup the driveway.

No reverse gear capability.

;-(

Two members of the iwsti forum mentioned that the problem may be a bent shifter fork.

Hear from this thread that may be it, or synchros.

What do I do to avoid a nightmare?

How could this happen?!

Appointment to be made with either Bachman or Huffman Subaru here in Louisville.

Any other recommendations service-wise?

How many miles? Could be a toasted clutch.

Did you notice any clutch slipping before you "lost gears"? As in, you'd go uphill and as you put power on it'd act like you were losing power, or it acts like it's slipping into manual.
