Default Aftermarket parts and Warranty...

Anyone know if Subaru is as "anal" as Mitsubishi when it comes to modding our cars...??

I was thinking of installing a CAI, exhaust and BOV but am thinking twice about it since I bought the extended warranty when I bought the car last month...

Also, my local Subaru dealer sells Cobb tuning parts so does that mean they are a mod friendly dealer or is there no such thing in the Subaru world...

I owned a VW R32 and had CAI and chip; the dealer never fussed about it when I took the car in for maintenance or service.

Anyone have any insight on this..?
Cheers,

This has been covered a million times as well. The answer to yoru question is this.... SOA is not "anal" when it comes to intelligent mods. If you replace your exhaust with a TBE, you can not expect SOA to cover that new exhaust and yada yada yada. Those are obvious. But! If you change turbos and stuff 30psi of boost into your motor, and your engine blows. Don't expect SOA to cover anything in the engine. This is the horror stories you read on the boards everyday. Some asshat, does somethign stupid and then gets on here and whines about how bad subby is because they wont stand by them.

I can say that it is also a dealer by dealer issue as well. Some dealerships are terrible about working with us and our mods. Others are more intelligent and understand when someone has not harmed their car by doing a mod.

Sorry I am so animated about this but it just takes a bit of common sense. The letter of the law says we are protected. SOA is willing to back us, as long as it the mods don't cause any problems. Subby are the ones that have to prove the mods caused problems to dissapprove your warantee...

Good luck!

SOA or at least my local dealer said they wouldn't replace my tranny *weak 5th syncro* due to the fact that i have a perrin short ram. but i think it has more to do w/ age and appearance than anything else. so i suggest NEVER deal with Wallace Subaru in Bristol TN.

man i don't know they also said that i've been messing w/ my boost, because i put in a Omoni Boost gauge. so i just let it go at that. i was also told that there service man wasn't trained on the new 6 speed gearbox, and they would have to pull the tranny and send it to CA to get it fixed and if it showed ANY abuse on it what so ever that i would have to pay full price for it to get fixed "while it was out". and w/ them saying that my warranty was useless now i figured that the cards where stacked against me. i love my car and i'm going to have to sell it because i HATE my local service.

Have you thought about taking the short ram off and going to another dealership?

Damn that is bad as the Ford dealership here telling my wife she made too many right hand turns, that was why the exploder woudl not hold its alignment. As a ASE certified mechanic, I had to go there and see this asshat face to face....Sheesh
