I had the recall done and I am tuned. No ECU update just changing the relay, no questions asked. Frankly, this is the 1st I hear about an ECU update associated with this recall. The letter said just a relay replacement and/or air-pump replacment and nothing about an ECU update. I think that dealer who said ECU update is just confused or up to no good. Or maybe it is model year dependent, I don't know. Mine is a 2011 STi

Sweet thank you, I have no reason yet to remove it, so might as well just get it done just for records

Wife: Hey, you got a letter...
Me: Yeah?
Wife: Subaru... secondary air pump recall.
Me: Oh. That's part of the emissions control system.
Wife: Let me guess...
Me: Yeah, don't have one of those in my car anymore.

received this letter as well. for those of us that have removed the pumps/associated codes (with AP), replacing this relay is unnecessary correct?

the pumps are gone, but the relay is still there. was only asking if replacing the (now) unused relay was necessary.
