don't kid yourself - this is a temp fix that will last until the WD40 dries up and/or more road grime takes its toll.

then, i want to make sure that no one else took you serious and that you didn't kid anyone else then since you didn't mention in your original post that it was a TEMPORARY fix.

don't want someone else to think that a fix for something going on since late 2003 was as easy to be rid of as your "WD-40 fix."

your struts will still need replacing, unless you are going to keep using WD-40 to put off spending money on struts, in which case i will buy stock in WD-40.

Lubing the strut body definitely gets rid of the clunk. But WD-40 is the wrong thing to use! Take a minute or two longer and do it right. Clean off any built-up gunk at the base of of the strut shaft (where it goes into the stut body). Then smear some white grease around on the shaft. I do that and it lasts for months.

i didnt have any white grease, the main reason for the wd40 is because its super quick... i wasnt sure if this would work at all... and i didnt want to spend a bunch of time making it all nice if it wasnt gonna do anything... when i pull the wheels off next ill make sure to lube it up properly.

Hey guys I have pretty bad clunk in my rear struts, esp the passengers one. Took it to Subaru and they're saying the only thing they can hear is the exhaust bumping on the rear bumper (which it's not), and if you push down on the rear of the vehicle you can feel it stick and hear it clunk slightly. How should I make these retards see that they are giong to need to replace them? I don't feel like installing the oem exhaust just to show thier 'master tech' that he's wrong...

So the dealer wanted to charge me $44 for looking at the car and they are trying to tell me that the exhaust was hitting the bumper (which it is not, I did the install and verified and showed them that there were no contact points) and once they saw it wasn't the exhaust said they wouldn't touch the strut unless it was blown and since SOA hadn't put out a notice of bad struts on STi's there was nothing they could do. I had to call SOA and force the service mgr to talk to them and see that he was a dumba*s and eventually he was an even bigger prick to me and he didn't charge me for the diagnosis (which was a cop out on thier part to not do warranty service) and I still have two f*cked struts. I have never met a group of more technically inept people in my life and on top of that they are as*holes. Seriously if I have to put up with this on a basically new car I'm selling it, eff that. I was nothing but coutious and professional to them and they treated me like some punk kid....

Well looks like my Passenge rear strut is starting to clunk!

I have an 06 STI with 12,500miles!

My question is that the noise isn't very loud... I can really only hear it when moving slowly like pulling into and out of my driveway.

It's kind of anoying but not obvious... but since I'm pretty anal about these kinds of things I notice it and it buggs me...

Just wondering how loud everyone else's is before they got it fixed?

Thanks,

Jay

I have noise but not when I'm moving slowly in parking lots. Just when Im traveling fast over uneven/abrupt/sharp pavement.

Can the "Clunk" your hearing be described as clicking? Or maybe that's a tell tale sign that they are about to start clunking.....damn

Joined the strut clunk club. 22k miles on my 06. Took it to the stealership and mentioned the clunk while they were changing my oil. When I went to pay the service writer told me my new struts will be in next week... Sweet!

YES, mine doesn't really sound like a "clunk" but more of a tapping... almost like someone is quickly knocking on a front door or something... But I only hear it when moving slowly...

Sorry I haven't read through the entire thread but if the strusts are changed do they just change them with the exact same ones as before/stock? If so, whats the point? Isn't the clunk just going to come back?

Jay
