PM'd you. Once I understand more, I'll post the dealer name in this thread.

Thought it might be pertinent to add that I too have experienced this problem and have a service scheduled at my dealership in Montreal to have the struts replaced. Also having the tranny replaced under warranty (4th gear grind when shifting from the top of 3rd, think it's just the synchro but they insist on replacing the entire transmission under warranty so I aint complainin') I'll keep you guys posted.

Default New STi oil filter PN#?

Data, i had my rear struts and tops replaced in the summer too. but with no surprise the noise returned in a week. i don't plan on bringing it back to the dealer the 2nd time for replacement as i know the noise may come back again. my theory is if the noise keeps coming back that means the struts we have are crap and the only solution is to get something else. as thunder mentioned, a new set of coilover will most likely solve this problem forever. as least they never failed on my old integra after many thousands of miles.

That's exactly what I plan to do if the noise returns. No point replacing bad struts with new bad struts. I'd just like to avoid the extra expense.

HEY EVERYONE... A new member to this club right here!!!! I installed the cusco front and rear adj swaybars with perrin rear endlinks just about three weeks ago and this weird clunking sound from the driver's rear started about two weeks later. So naturally at first I thought I had bent/broken a mounting bracket for the rear swaybar or maybe an endlink was loose. To my suprise the entire rear suspension looked to be in perfect condition. So I started browsing the site and here is this link on clunking...

Needless to say before seeing this thread I was quite nervous about what it was. I recently had a bad curb run in which left me with a bent control arm and tie rod on the driver's front. I was afraid that something had happened during that as well (im still feeling some kind of light rubbing in the front... maybe the cv joint?)

I'm off to call subaru right now to get an appt to get it all checked out. I want to get Tein Flex w/ EDFC, maybe this is the time? Although my bank account can definitely not afford that right now...

Just called subaru... next thursday (feb 10th is the first available day). I'm going to have them fix both of the sti's biggest problems. The infamous 'clunk' and the annoying steering wheel misalignment.

They better not give me trouble for the cusco swaybars and the warranty...

I had the same clunk on my '04 at 14,000 miles. I took it in without an appointment. 2 hours later I had a new strut installed. Although now at 18,500 it feels like it is geting soft again.

Captains Log; Stardate 02/03/05.

Took my car into the dealer for the strut clunk. The service manager took care of me, and diagnosed the problem as a strut issue within the hour.

Here's what they wrote:
Quote:
Tech inspected, test drove veh. Traced problem to left rear strut and mount. Special ordered parts.
Here's the parts they ordered:
20360FE900 Strut Cp R Rh for $359.96
20370FE110 Strut Mount R for $65.33

I am now a little concerned that they ordered a right rear strut to fix a left rear strut problem...

Guess I'll call in tomorrow to ask if there was a mistake or not...

Default RE: Howling noise from engine under boost...

Also, not to knock the service writer, but this was kind of funny.

He said they would test drive the car to hear the problem. I said, "not necessary" and jumped on the read door sill a few times to make the clunk.

He says, "ohhhh" and takes a step back. I asked what the sound meant, and he said he had never heard a "clunk" like that before.

Then I tell him about what I've read on the internet... His response was less than enthusiastic.

One hour later... His response was, "We've diagnosed a problem with your strut."

I figure since they ordered the wrong side strut, I'll just ask for both to be replaced...

To add more information (I've been having this clunk since more than 6 months)

To "temporarily" resolve the clunk issue:

Jack up the car in the corner that is clunking, and leave it like that overnight.

Drive the car, and no more clunk. Of course once the spring settles down, it reappears.

Is there only one brand of strut that fits our car? Can we use a different manufacturer and maybe prevent this?

the mounts are the same but the struts have different part numbers. when i had my struts replaced, these are the part numbers listed on the receipt.

20360FE900 (right)
20360FE910 (left)

they gave me 05 strut mounts and they claimed it's beefier than the 04's but i forgot the part number.

Parts finally arrived. Dealer appointment scheduled for Monday.

My clunk became pretty intense today. It was reverberating, like the strut was shaking itself apart.
