I had strut clunk at 2K miles, I just went and got coilovers and was done with it. They should replace yours under warrenty, not like it is an unknown problem....

Why not? New is always better in my book!

In my case, the A/R bar bushings sound like a old, creaky door when their dry. OTOH, the struts make a noise that sounds like there is a loose golf ball bouncing up and down in the trunk, especially over slow speed bumps - it's a definite "bump" noise.

Thanks forthe feedback guys. MAn I really dislike Heubereger and I really disklike those monkeys touching my interior. I might yank the struts myself and bring 'em to him. Thanks Cnstman.

When are you gonna let me drive your 18G?!?!?

Nooooooooo. I think I've developed the infamous clunk/knock in my right rear strut. I noticed it about 3-4 weeks ago when pulling into my driveway. Sounded like a dull knocking, like some golf balls were bouncing around in the C-pillar area or clumps of mud flying around under the wheel arch. I dismissed it because our new home doesn't have a paved driveway yet and it is fairly uneven.

Fast forward to today and I noticed rapid and repeated knocking while slowing down for a stop. Next stop, same thing. What is really strange is that at speeds above 60km/h, I don't hear any knocking, even when hitting bumps. It seems that it only occurs at slow speeds and when slowing down, especially when turning. After pulling into the driveway, I got out of the car and when to the passenger side of the trunk and pushed down a couple times. As the car sprung back up I'd hear two-three muffled knocks. Went to the left side of the car and did the same thing...nothing.

So I think I have the strut-clunk (I also have one of the first 05s that came out...not sure if that matters.) It doesn't seem to affect handling but I can see this getting old real fast. I'm also pretty sure I can feel the knocks, mostly through the back of the seat bottom/floor. I think I'm going to wait and have both replaced when I go to do my brakes and springs (hopefully late spring.)

I caught the clap.......errr......I mean the clunk also. I went in with some WD-40 and no clunk, well its back. So I grabbed some white-lithium spray grease. I have not had the chance to use the WLG yet. I am hoping that will last longer then the WD-40.

Add me to the list. I had to find this thread because I knew it was a problem with '04s, but I never thought it would happen to my '05. I'm right at 11k miles now. I brought my car into the dealer last week and the parts arrived this week so I'll be taking it back tomorrow. Wish me luck. They ordered the passenger side strut and strut tophat.

I believe lithium grease is water soluble. I used a marine type grease and went 7-8k miles before the clunk started again.

Update... took my car is for a normal service. Told them of the strut clunk issue, and was replaced under warranty without question. Happy subaru owner here.

So is it true how officially Subaru won't deny Warranty if you get clunk with JDM Pink Springs? Thinking about taking her in and not putting stock springs back on. Thanks.

Ok, I have been searching all over for this problem and FINALLY I have found it. I can't believe there are so many of us out there with this problem. I have an '05 STI and have had this noise for well over 6 months. I'm also more than shocked that Subaru has obviously been getting all of these complaints and obvious documented replacements and there hasn't been a recall yet. It's one thing to have a Rally bred car that is gonna have some obvious NVH issue , but to have them because the struts are losing thier lubriation is pretty stupid to me. Anyone know if the JDM Spec C or v9 struts have the same problem? I might just go with them if this is gonna just happen again from a SOA part.
