Default problem

i have the same problem...its really depressing...i recently lowered my car with the tanabe gf210 05 specific springs and the drop on the driver side is really nice but on the passenger side...another story...it wont settle..i believe its the strut...i also hear the clunks...i thought i fixed it but turns out i didnt...my sti has a lean and i dont like it...the passenger side is about a half an inch, if not more, higher than the driver side....do u guys think i should take it to the dealer with the aftermarket springs or put the stock ones back on before i do? its annoying..........

I would take it in if you are not planning on replacing them with aftermarket...I think Suby has owned up to this problem and wont give you any hassle over your springs.. I am going to forgo the stock crap and put a set of Tein Flex coilovers on and be done with this issue. Didnt want to spend a ton but was going to put JDM pinks and camber plates/ Group N tops on anyway....

Well, I had my car in the end of last week for this common issue and my dealer has now ordered replacement struts and top mounts. All will be covered by my warranty. Install should happen as soon as they arrive later this week. Hopefully this solves the problem.

I cant find the answer so I'm going to ask.

My car has 3,000 miles before the warranty runs out.

What happens if i get the strut clunk issue again after the warranty is out? I pay of pocket? If so how much?

Thanks guys

Went to the dealer today, took them two seconds to diagnose the strut clunk. They ordered a set on the spot, they go in next week.

I had the same problem after 18,000 miles on my 05. I couldn't find out what was rolling around in my trunk. I thought the jack had come loose at first. I even jacked it up and pushed/pulled on the suspension. I couldn't find the cause.

I went to the dealer and they said it was a rear strut problem. I had them both replaced a week later. They dealer said I would have to sign waiver before they could do the work because of my aftermarket set up, Prodrive Springs and Group N Tops. I never saw any such waiver. There was also a note on my invoice that said i would have to return the car to stock before they could diagnose any further suspension concerns.

Sidenote: Has anyone experienced the "clunk" from the replacement struts?

Default Couple of questions

I am currently considering the purchase of an '05 or '06 STi , but after reading this thread I have some concerns. I am coming from a Nissan 350Z that has had front tire "cupping" problems that Nissan refuses to actually fix. Very common issue with the 350Z. At any rate, I don't want to come from one car with recurring problems to another. Couple of questions:

1) Do any of you have STi' with over 15,000 miles and NOT had this strut issue?

2) Is there any word on the '06 STi having/not having a problem? If no, has anyone compared the part numbers from '05-to-'06 to determine any sort of a change in those strut assemblies?

Thanks alot.

If your not going to purchase a STI because of this strut problem maybe you should go back to a Nissan....This is a simple problem that is covered. Hell my 05 only had 1900 miles and I had the clunk. Im just chose to install coilovers because I didnt want to mess with stock struts...There is no comparison to an STI and the 350Z....

I brought my car into the dealer today because of a clunking sound coming from the passenger rear. At first the mechanic said he couldn't hear the clunking sound. After I explained to him what to listen for and how to replicate it, they ordered a new set of rear struts. I only have 8300 miles on my 05. I hope there isn't an inherent design flaw with the struts and that the new ones wont have the same problem.

EDIT: Had the rear struts replaced and so far no clunk.

Is there a published TSB for the struts that state both rear struts are to be replaced? SOA customer care line said they will only replace the faulty one. I want to see where it says that subaru "recommends" that both sides be replaced together.

Hell I only had 1800 miles on my 05. That is why I just went ahead and installed coilovers. I didnt want to play around with the new ones doing the same thing....

Anyone know a mod friendly dealer in the Vacaville Cali area?

I got the strut clunk now after almost 20k with no issues.

Question Ok this is getting stupid

Ok im getting really pissed at subaru and my service guy...what do you think i should do?...everyone here seems to have no problem getting them fixed or replaced...heres my story and problem. I made a few posts about the strut problem when it first started. I took the car to subaru...each time i took it i would have to drop it off and they would give me a loaner car. The next day id go back return the car to get mine and they would tell me " Oh its the top strut mount i had to order it be in next week" So i said ok no problem go in get it fixed no noise for like a month then clunk clunk clunk call and repeat the same process and each time i told the guy its the strut replace the entire strut his reply is "oh i have to diagnose the problem first" Im standing there thinking its the same problem as last time...anyway i went thru this 6 times each time they just replaced the top strut mount...after the first time it was fixed it lasted about a month each time after that it lasted for a few days then clunk clunk clunk again...this is gonna be the 7th time taking it in and this time he said ill have to get one of my guys to take a ride with you and see if we can figure this out...should i print out this post and bring it to him and slap it on his desk or what...am i getting dicked around? and sorry for the poor grammar and spelling but what should i do here im getting real sick of this 7 times...
Thanks
Ron
