hello. after reading this forum i dont know what to think. today i was driving, very quickly around a turn, felt like something slammed in my trunk. i thought ok my subs moved around.. no big deal.. but after thinking about it.. there is no way my subs could hit any of the walls... so the turn was an S turn and i go around the second bend just as fast and it reproduced the same thing... i get out.. check my trunk, my subs did move.. however, the carpeting keeps them from hitting any of the walls.... i fear this is the strut clunk.. do you guys agree? i only noticed this twice while going around turns quickly.

EDIT- I am at 3456. that is right just over 3000 miles.... it is an 05 too

It probably was. Read the thread, people are hearing the clunk at low speeds and also when rocking the car at a standstill.

Better still, pull the subs out and go around those corners again. If it still clunks see if you can do the rocking-at-a-standstill thing and reproduce it. I'm dying to hear if the '05 struts do this too.

Bye!

mine clunks when driving off and slowing down and on bumpy roads. but when i rock it, it is not there. strange. oh and i went into the dealership today and they re-created the problem and i was waiting in the waitroom for a good 1hour or so. i thought they were warrantying the work, so i went up to the service guy and he told me ya they found the problem and since u got aftermarket parts, we can't do it under warranty. so i proceeded to tell him that a lot of the stock suspensions without any mods have it too. he wouldn't budge a bit. he did say if i put it back to stock, then he would cover under warranty. i guess its too much hassle to do it. so i guess i'll leave it be.

The dealership is giving me crap about my rear struts because of my poltec endlinks and cusco sway bar. I guess ill have to put the stock parts back on for now.

well what do you know, car hits about 12000 miles and the clunking rear strut has begun for me. I was hoping to be a lucky one and not have this happen to me. I took my car to the dealership and they tell me nothing is wrong with my struts, and I have nothing to worry about, well thats not what I wanted to hear. The dealership is giving me a real hard time about fixing anything because they say nothing is wrong. Boy I hate car dealerships. Jamie

I started to notice the clunking noise in the rear of my car about two weeks ago. I just turned 25K. I tore apart my entire trunk looking for what might be rolling around until I found this thread. I was unable to re-create the problem consistently, so I spent much of my time driving with the radio off and the windows down. Ironically, my service manager informed me, while standing underneath and huge poster of all STi performance upgrades, that any aftermarket modifications would void the warranty. I only have the K&N Typhoon and I took it off the night before, so the struts are being replaced this week.

That's ridiculous on his part. The modification should not void the warranty for anything it could not possibly cause failure in. Have him explain to you just how an intake causes a strut failure (one experienced by many people, stock or heavily modified).

The easiest way to replicate it is to pop the trunk, stand in it, and compress the system with your weight. Don't jump up and down, just do like a pump fake.

Default clunk junk!

hey old salty? any luck?
I just , and I mean just installed a cusco rear and endlinks.
clunking at slow speed!!!!
didn't notice it before.
I know everything is tight as a drum under there.
anyone else try going back to stock bar yet to see if noise goes away?
I know most of you have issues with clunks on an OEM set-up, however just seems like mine is caused from the cusco sway bar and or links!

Just got my car back from the fourth visit and they didn't even change the strut! They "adjusted it". Gonna kill them all!!!!!!!!!!! The regional rep from Subaru wouldn't let them change it since it wasn't leaking! You've got to be kidding me. This is going to be fun on Tuesday. I'm going to become the customer everyone hates. I've had the car in four times and always been polite about it even though I get the worst service. NOT ANYMORE
