Default 2005 sti power train warranty

Hello,
I bought a 2005 Sti from the first owner, no mods what so ever, finally imported into Canada yesterday and on my way home car died, tried to crank it, would not start and is making loud knocking noise, it has 58300 miles on it now, checked the oil and its good, no leaks or anything, no engine light or oil light lit up. I called Subaru America and they confirmed that car is still under power train warranty until Sep 2010, my question is how hard it is to get any warranty work done, I'm frustrated and depressed and looking for some answers from all the great people here. Thanks

Sorry to hear about your car.. the same happened to me Saturday night. My car is a 06 STI with 42K miles so it's at the dealer in process of installing a new engine. I would say call your local Subaru dealer, should be covered by SOA. Good luck.

What wound up being the cause of your issue?

Do a search about US cars imported into Canadia. You'll have some issues with warranty work. I THINK it turns into a warranty reimbursment deal. You'll have to pay for repairs, and SOAmerica will reimburse you. SOCanada won't warranty it themselves. It was a pretty big deal a few years back so there should be quite a bit about it floating around.

BUT.... act fast because it a 5yr/60k mi warranty. So you've got either 1700 miles OR Sept. 2010. Whichever occurs first.

You bought it from an original owner and then when you tried to drive it home it died? Shouldn't the owner have something to do with this situation?

Does you car turn over at all? Or does it just make rapid clicking sounds when you turn the key?

I went to the dealership and they said if the problem is with the power train than it should be fixed under the warranty, called SOA they said they have a reciprocal between them and COA so I guess I wont have to pay for it and wait for the reimbursement from SOA, will find out tomorrow as to what exactly went wrong with the car, I asked the dealership how did they move the car to the back, they said they drove it though I don't know how they drove when car was not staying on. Thanks guys for all the good response.

Oh really, I'm shocked to hear that man, this is my first ever Subie and to be honest its not a good start, did you have any problem with the warranty?

Yep, that's correct. SOA and SOC have reciprocal agreements. You pay for the repairs, SOA will reimburse you.
