IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | So I have a 2006 STi with only 11,000 miles and it has had zero problems to this point. Except when I fill the tank the gauge reads just under 3/4 full, as I drive it slowly increases to the almost full level. This has been happening now for two months. I thought it was no big deal but today I got into the car and the gauge was all the way at E and the orange light had turned on. When I got out of the car there was just below a 1/4 tank left WTF?? So i proceeded to the gas station thinking maybe there was a leak in the gas line and I was really empty, but when I filled the tank I could only put in 12.25 gallons which is only about 3/4 of a tank. Again after I filled the tank it read just about 3/4 full and has been raising again. I am going to take it to the dealership to have it fixed (which I hate doing, I like to be the only one who touches the car). If anyone has any ideas about what is going on let me know. Does anyone else have this issue??? This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2007 Trader Rating: (3) | Hi,Before you trek on down to your service dept. go to the thread [weird things about our cars/or wtf ever in the newb section].that is of sticky status. I think it it has this ''perfectly normal'' characteristic for at least my 2007 and your 2006. Try this. When done filling petrol, and ignition is turned on ...And the deficient ammt is given.I believe you need to turn on -turn of-turn on =exact ammt is then shown. -hope i helped-vroom btw;my first week of ownership,i almost knocked a gas attendant out for ''ripping'' me off! ![]() I went back to him and said i was sorry and gave him two comp. tickets to see the lakers play golden state. IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | Yep checked the ground for gas and have never found any. It is not really a strong gas odor just very mild odor that could be just me mistaking it for exhaust fumes, I have a catback exhaust. I will look at the thread but I don't think any gas is leaking b/c my most recent fill up was correct as to where the gauge was previously positioned. 1/4 left and I only had to put in 12.25 gallons which makes sense having a 15.9 gallon tank. I really think the gauge is just faulty. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | My 06 does the same thing, usually takes almost 30 minutes before the gauge catches up. I haven't had any problems with it and the mileage remains consistent. |

I have taken key all the way out and let the car sit for a minute and the same results. I think the dealership is where I'm headed. Thanks for the help! Last edited by WRC DNA; 08-26-2008 at 05:22 AM.

IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | Took it to the dealership yesterday. Turns out the fuel sending units are not reading correctly. They replaced both under warranty. My problem with this is that I did a search for "fuel sending unit" and it comes up as the common theme for all those who have had this problem. This should be a recalled part!!! If it is affecting this many STi drivers they should recall and fix everyones who is in and OUT of warranty. It just seems like another business decision to not recall the part and instead make people pay for something that is defective. Why can't SofA just do the right thing? MODS: we need a sticky about the defective fuel sending units if there isn't one somewhere that I haven't seen already. I think it should be just below the strut clunk log. |

I have replaced maybe a total of 3-4 in the past 2 years. I am willing to say that there are 20 times more cars out there without that problem than there are those with it.

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2006 Trader Rating: (1) | I'm going in for my second sending unit replacement on Monday. Troy at Jory Subaru said I was one of the first 07's that had them replaced but they had since came out with a newer part. The first one worked for a while then I started getting strange readings again. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2008 Trader Rating: (1) | My 06 comes up slow if I leave her running while fueling, but comes right up when I fuel with engine off. Also the spedometer is inaccurate by 3-5 MPH...also an issue with some 05 drivers I know. |

This in turn causes your warranty to run out faster than it should as well because your car may say it has 60,000 miles on it, but really since the speedo showed you go faster than you were really going you may only have 55,000 or whatever.
