Default No OEM hitch for 2007 Sti?

Took my car to the dealer for some turbo issues and asked them to install a hitch at the same time.

The dealer ordered the hitch, but then they said that SOA doesn't support the sedans with a hitch so it's not something they will do and warranty.

Does that seem right?

I don't have to pay for anything (they're returning the hitch), but I was kind of surprised by their response.

Now it makes me apprehensive about getting a hitch put on aftermarket, don't want to void my warranty because they said I towed something and stressed the tranny too much.

What a bummer man! Sorry to hear what happened. Out of curiosity I was wonder what your going to tow with your STi? I imagine a small uhaul or something of that nature? I don't think the car would have any problems doing so. It makes pretty of power, and the transmission is pretty beefy in the STi's.

Not sure if it will totally void your warrety but they were probably saying that they couldn't warranty the hitch itself. SOA hasn't ever offered a hitch for the sedans as far as I am aware of. The problem isn't with the transmission or power its with the chassis.

Owners manual states that towing is not recommended with the WRX and STI. Hence why they probably can't warranty it.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'm going to have to go with a roof rack for the bikes then, was hoping to avoid that one.

Ouch man. I had a roof rack - just sold it. I am going to go trailer hitch or hatchback in the future. No more roof rack for me. It got old and annoying after a while.

I'm surprised by that. I am curious though - how can they void your warranty for having a hitch when there are multiple things you can put on a hitch that does not involve towing? Seems a little stretched by subaru.

FWIW, the 06 STI had a tow rating of 2,000 lbs. It was on the Subaru site under specifications.

hidden hitch makes one that i've seen on an sti. it only has the 1 1/4" receiver, but that is all you'll need if you're only going to attach a bike hitch rack.

This is what I bought for my STi. You have to remove the diffuser on the 06 & 07 STi's though. The first one is the one that fits the STi.

2007 Subaru Impreza hitch search by etrailer.com (800)298-8924

edit: the 05' owners manual (not sure about the 07) doesn't say anything about not using a trailer hitch on the STi, it only says that possible damage caused by towing will not be warrantied.
