I have a 07 with 5,000 miles stock. I love my car and I was planning to keep it for a long long time...... but after hearing all these problems with the 07's I don't think this engines will last more than 50k I waited 3 years to get the 07 and now the these cars came with problems great!

What should I get?

Am I the only one thinking of selling the sti for its problems?

There are certain problems with all of the model years to be honest but really its not that wide spread as it seems!

Also you have to remember that the OEM maps are notoriously crappy and this is just not a subaru thing if you look at the big spectrum of cars out there.

Of course as a consumer you shouldn't have to spend 30k+ on a car and then have to spend $600 + for something like an AP / tune but as an enthusiast you would probably anyway!

Also if you are in here then you are at least savvy enough to investigate common problems and pitfalls from Subaru and the proper ways have your car in top running condition even in stock form!

There are a lot of strong running 07 STI's out there but like I said every MY has its issues!

I wouldnt sweat it man, if anything fails and your completly stock then the waranty will cover whatever broke. If you still own the car after the waranty is up and you blow a piston or something then you could put in better forged pistons and make your engine bullet proff!

1) Even if the motor grenades with 50k miles, the powertrain warranty extends to 60k. If you want to seriously mod the car, throw in some forged pistons and be done with it.

2) Yeah, I know it sucks to buy the car and still have to tinker with it, but be honest. Most of us are tinkering with them anyway.

3) An old M3 is going to be expensive to maintain. You're not saving any money that way.

4) A G3* is not going to give you the same satisfaction.

5) You're not the only one thinking about it, and if you do sell it, you wouldn't be the only on who has. Let me lay it down for you.

Remember that what you read on the forums is by no means a representative sample of the cars out there. Does the stock map suck? Mostly yes. But that can be fixed. You can have the car open source protuned stock and probably have a better stock car than 90% of owners out there. Don't let a lean factory map force you to give up something you love. Do what enthusiasts do. Throw a protune at it.

before you consider on older M3 do some reading and check on the possible issue's you can face with them. Unless your talking pre E46.

Subies are certainly easier to Open tune if you wanted to then an E46 M3. Have built a few of these and they are a great car too but different!

I sold an 05 and miss it every day. Except for that big honkin' wing!

The new ones are very cool and refined but dont have the 'balls out' feel of the older models. Dont do it.

ha ha ha.... you guys really stick together. I don't know what to do. Its funny in one computer screen I have ebay to get parts for the sti and the other I have autotrader looking for another car . I will look into the AP to see if I can run better map.

Maybe no percievable diff in power but there is definitely a diff in drivability especially with the 1.04 maps.

Every Car has problems. I'm at 31K miles on my modified 07...No issues. 360 lb/Ft Tq to the wheels.<- That in itself makes a G35 useless to me Although they are pretty.

I don't think I would have bought this car to keep it stock. I'm 34 years old and I could be driving something a bit more classy(Vette, 350Z,) but this car is like the GO-KART I never had as a kid. It is UGLY and MEAN and demands you get it dirty. You will be disappointed if you get rid of it.

DO a TBE and A protune and dont look back.
