IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | Okay, this is pretty sad. I had just gotten on the freeway July 4th weekend, and I noticed the hood scoop on my 2004 STi start to vibrate much more than the usual. I was traveling at about 60 mph. A second after I noticed the stronger than normal vibration, the hood scoop flew off, scratching my windshield in the process! I pulled over and stopped the car on the shoulder to retrieve the scoop and pieces that had landed on the side of the freeway. Apparently the clips that hold the scoop to the hood broke loose somehow. I wrote an email to Subaru of America, asking them if there was anything they could do for me, and they said there was nothing they would do since it was not something covered under warranty, and the warranty on the car had already expired. Has this happened to anybody else here, or am I the only unlucky one? If it's happened to anyone else, please let me know, because then I think they'll need to issue a recall and replace our hoods. | Silver Member | sorry to hear that...But honestly sounds like you are the only one i have heard this happening too. Did the previous owner have the car modded. Since it's an 04' and you have one post I assume that you bought it used. Did you purchase it from a subaru dealer? How many miles did you drive it before this happened? |

You got to check the nuts or replace them with security nuts that will not come off with vibration. This are the ones that have a nylon grove on the edge and that are a pita to bolt . |

IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | The same happens to an 05, if I recall well the other owner was an 05. Its not really an ishue of manufacturing, its just the normal tendency of bolts to loosen up over time. If you live in an area of grate temperature differences over the day and night it also plays a good roll. But then again is one of them Freak tings lol. Like when I found a frog roasted on the intercooler -I had to use acid to remove the stain.... Ho wants frog legs! |
