got protuned. at agile..great place!.im not in germantown i have another friend who comes to meets with me every friday..thats why i asked u...maybe u might want to come...ima find out where he is exactly in germantown and see if he knows your area...he has blue 05 sti..

I have a 2007 limited sti with 22000 miles r u saying i have to do something to avoid blowing my engine or that there is a chance my engine could blow

Seriously there is nothing you can do. If your piston gap is out of specs then in my opinion even tune won't make it much better and once it breaks SOA will have one more argument not to repair your car.
Big chances are you have good pistons. KingncSTi measured pistons on his blown 07 and 2 of his pistons had ring gap of 0.002" where according to subaru specs it should be MINIMUM 0.008". Two other were fine on the other hand.
The problem is that when temperature in your motor raises, your rings expand as well, and since they don't have space needed, they break ringlands.
So without taking it apart you won't know until it breaks.
Sad but true.
I would say don't think about it and drive it like you used to. Even if it breaks, by then the matter of repairing 07s on warranty will be straight forward.
I'm working on it right now and it looks promising.

I'll keep y'all posted.

Is it stock? There is a chance any of these engines (or ANY engine) can blow. Some, such as certain 07's seem to be prone to it, with other factors entering into the equation.

Some 07's have issues, some do not. Many will suggest Stage 1 (to start) engine management via something like the Cobb AP, Ecutek, or self-tuning.

will..those of us who modded to stg2..be getting any warranty...otherwise its a waste...i went stg2 to try an keep from mine blowing..an i hope it doesnt

You will not be warrantied for stg 2 modifications. The SOA inspector I spoke to while my blown longblock was being assessed said they are aware the exact details/bolts to look at for stg2 modifications based on information from the forums and dealers. He also got smart with me and said "this is what we do for a living kid". I got his phone number by shoulder surfing the owners desk at the dealership and called him. He then told me it was against SOA policy to speak directly to the customer.

The only saving grace after my blown long block (cyl4 low compression) was replaced under warranty was the fact it was 100% stock.

Hoping is the poorest example of mitigating risk.

I do understand why SOA doesnt want to warrenty my engine "if" I went STG2, but it is there burden of proof that the mod caused the issue. For example if I went stg 2 and burned up my clutch, ya I cant argue a thing. BUT if I go stg 2 and after tearing down my engine it is found that the parts are out of factory specs. I would say thats a manufacture defect and not caused by me.

We get caught up with the idea that modifing the car will void the warrenty and nothing is covered, I dont believe thats the case, but I would guess SOA would start there until pushed. Most people will not gather the info contact piston manufactures and other experts and build a case. Most just whine alittle and go away. What would you do if you was SOA. DENIED Hey we do it for a living, you dont have a chance.

Not a good business practice to me. I read this and know that if I have an issue it will be like pulling teeth. Maybe I go else where to find my next car. For the price of an STI alot of nice cars can be had without the hassle. I may not buy that Forrester or Outback I was looking at.

I dont get it ,i just dont get it.If some one wants this 07 owner shaking in his boots it worked.
I have no one to turn to.ive contacted SOA they wont return calls,emails etc...
Cant any one give me conclusive advice.
Its getting worse it seems as more and more 07s are failing.

Stage 2 is ultimate doom if your failure was piston related. You may have an argument if it was anything else.

You fell in the same trap. If my engine is tore down and the ring gaps are smaller then factory spec on my worn engine, then it was a manufacture defect. If I take it to a piston manufacture and they say it was not cast correctly, MD again. If all came back in spec I eat it. If it craps out at STG 2 power then there is a manufacture defect, we all now that and SOA ( in my opinion) should/does also. The engine should be over engineered enough to take stage 2.

SOA could argue that if the tuning was left at stock power levels this failure wouldnt happen. My reply would be how do they know, apparently not since its happening to stock vehicles.

I love the ads for SPT Intakes about how they add HP and yet dont void the warranty.

I also love the Stop sale that SOA had because of piston issues. I think I could make a case.

It is sad to see SOA treat people like this I truely like there vehicles. If its my fault ok I eat it, if its theirs they should, and if they want people to come back they should error in the cutomers favor. Business 101
