If it craps out at STG 2 power then there is a manufacture defect, we all now that and SOA ( in my opinion) should/does also. The engine should be over engineered enough to take stage 2.

SOA could argue that if the tuning was left at stock power levels this failure wouldnt happen. My reply would be how do they know, apparently not since its happening to stock vehicles.

I love the ads for SPT Intakes about how they add HP and yet dont void the warranty.

I also love the Stop sale that SOA had because of piston issues. I think I could make a case.

It is sad to see SOA treat people like this I truely like there vehicles. If its my fault ok I eat it, if its theirs they should, and if they want people to come back they should error in the cutomers favor. Business 101

OP best of luck with your issue just dont give up without a fight.
How can I take the portal to your world?...it seems really nice there.

^^^^ A few more years under your belt.

If you let me walk all over you I will.
Here is an example:

You Solovus can no long post on IWSTI. You have made me mad and you agreed to follow the rules and not post things that upset others.

I stated it, but is it true? Can I do that?

At some point someone that really has the ability to decide that would have to.
I guess that was my point, that just because a rep for SOA says no, doesnt mean thats the final say.

I will email you on how to get to the portal. Its not as great as it sounds.

Ok, but good luck proving that your stage 2 modification which adds almost 60whp didn't cause damage to the engine. SOA has no liability to make the STI handle stage 2 power levels. I think you will hit a brick wall if SOA knew you were stage 2.

I have fought SOA before on a warranty denial for my 02 WRX (transmission failure)...all I heard was no no no...I finally pushed hard enough (got attorney general involved) that they fixed it under warranty. So I know a bit about pushing, but know that if SOA had anything other than opinion I would've been out of luck (generalization of what attorney general stated.).

Did you go to arbitration?
Who OKed the repair?

I am no expert, just worked in a dealer (Chrysler) and seen a few cars/ customers that went through arbitration. At that time a car would be sent to another dealer for another opinion, kind of like a step 2.

Fill us in on your story it sounds interesting/ helpful.

I agree getting stg 2 warrentied would be like parting the red sea. I didnt say impossible, well maybe.
Id give it a whirl.
I just figure Im on my dime now anyways so whatever I get would be a bonus.

a stg 2 car returned to stock for the warranty claim shouldn't be too difficult...

You are wrong. Inspectors and the techs can determine if overboosting, rough idle, and or CEL's (misifres, blah blah) have been the cause of mechanical failure based on, but not limited to, the following:

--TBE bolts showing signs of "wrenching".
--Spark plug discoloration from high octane, boost and or detonation.
--Inspection of cylinder walls for scoring with a mini camera though spark plug seats

From a SOA inspectors point of view, ppl returning cars back to stock for warranty work sticks out like a sore thumb. They've been dealing with that sh!t since 2004. At the end of the day however be prepared for anything, some dealerships are on top of their game in comparison to others.

Now, if you can prove or convince SOA that a component was/is out of specification which caused mechanical failure....then your in a different ballpark.

replace any excessively scared downpipe nuts/bolts and you should be good to go

stock tune on an 07 overboosts so they can't blame any signs of that on you

they would have to take pictures of the nuts/bolts while they are still installed on the car. is that standard practice for most dealerships? I don't know but I can't imagine that they always do that before jumping into the tear down process to find the cause of the problem. as soon as a tech touches the bolts with a wrench during the tear down process they can't blame it on you.

think of mods or services that shouldn't affect the powertrain warranty but might allow you to explain removal of the downpipe...

I don't think Subaru sends an inspector out for every car. Of course any competent tech can easily detect a molested car but it has everything to do with the attitude of the dealer and fortunately some don't care. If the dealer is suspicious and out to deny you warranty coverage then you ARE screwed. Find a good service manger, show up well dressed, well spoken and with a clean car that doesn't visually scream abuse and you should be taken care of.

Do you have replacement insurance on your car?

On any new car I buy, I always get full replacement as part of my insurance for the first three years. That way if I write it off, they replace it or give you a cheque for the full amount it would be to buy one off the lot, not just write me a cheque for 1/2 the value!

If you do, I would drive it into a brick wall or off a cliff and get the insurance to replace it or cut you a cheque and go buy something else!

Just get someone close to you (brother/friend) to take it in the middle of the night and run it into the ground. Just make sure they do it right as you don't want a f'ed up car coming back!

OR, I would be going the lawyer way and fighting it to the bitter end!

This thread is pretty damn depressing.

I figure with most cars getting closer to the 36k warranty expiration we'll probably see fewer and fewer of these claims. I am still surprised no one has gotten together in a class action lawsuit against Subaru over this though.

I got like 8k miles left on my warranty and I'm hoping my motor lasts me well after that.
