Default How Fast Can You Shift Sti Transmission Without Grinding On An Undamaged Trans

JUST BOUGHT an sti 05 stock 45000 miles and the trans mission is totally differnt than an trans i have driven "older gc8 5 speed trans" gc8 trans you can shift in like a milasecond my new sti trans if i shift like that it will grind. under hard acelleration 1st to 2nd i have to wait like a 1/4 or half a second befor it will go in and 2nd to 3rd the same with all gears and also in 3rd some times a clunk or a vibration if i am under hard acceleration, and iF try to put it in too fast . and also i have to shift with like 2 to 3 fingers pressure light pressure and this is with the clutch to the floor . and also i was wonder ing where does a new clutch engade on. my sti it starts to engadge last inch and a 1/2. I'm also a very noligable on cars I'm a bmw tech. also if these problems are a problem will the dealer waranty and fixx whats wrong with the trans even if the guy beform me might have beaten on the trans and posibly grinded the sincrows

ONE LAST THING I CAN ONLY GO IN 1ST IF STOPED OR LIKE 1 MPH

all of these things are somewhat "normal" your clutch issue is also normal.
i have a new clutch with 10k on it and it engages in the same place.

the sti is not very forgiving when it comes to downshifting. You can't put it in first unless you are practically stopped or just barely rolling - so don't be worried about that.

How fast it goes into gear on upshifts is entirely dependent on the RPM I shift at. Properly driven, I have no difficulty shifting fast enough to bounce the rear diff against the car .

So true. And by far the most annoying thing about this car IMO. I wish Subaru would put a better synchro on 1st.

If you want to get into first, there are two simple tricks, either rev the engine a bit so you can go into first, or if you are coming to a stop, press in the clutch, and move the shifter into 2nd then into 1st before letting the clutch out.

As far as the speed to shift gears, you just need to get used to it. I have problems sometimes getting locked out of gears and having to press the clutch back in and try the gear again when I am racing and FFS. It just takes some practice.
