Default Over charged for parts?

Hey guys,

My car's at the dealership getting serviced right now. I felt like i was being over charged on their services so i asked the service manager to send me a parts list with part #'s so i could cross reference them on subarugenuineparts.com. after checking the prices, it looks as though they're charging me significantly over msrp, i.e.-- the price on subarugeniuneparts.com is listed at $263.48 with a msrp of $359.95. the stealership is charging me $399.54

does this sound/look right to you guys? if not, what should i do?

thanks in advance for your help.

Bring it to their attention. Or simply cancel the service, and order the parts by you're self. IMO. good luck!

Definatly call them out. I'd be pissed. Print out the paper and bring it in. You might be paying for shipping, if you havnt already taken that into consideration.

yes, i have taken shipping into consideration. can anyone here confirm that the stealership should be charging me what's listed on subarugeniuneparts.com?..... or is it standard practice for them to charge what subarugeniuneparts.com is listing as msrp?

first off what part is it. 2ndly subarugenuineparts charges WAY less than MSRP. so its not uncommon for other dealers to charge MSRP or even a little more. U could ask but they have your car and and can basically charge you whatever they want for parts/labor. Id still bring it up and see what they say though

When buying parts from the dealer they will always sell at msrp, they simply have no reason to offer the parts for less. As WESTI mentioned, subarugenuineparts is not a good reference as they sell most of their parts well below msrp. I would call some other dealerships to compare prices if you think you're being overcharged.

EDIT: FYI, there are 4 suby dealers near me and I tried to get all of them to match subarugenuineparts' price for a trunk lid, none would match the price which was 25% less than msrp, YMMV.

MSRP is just that, "suggested retail". Dealers can charge less or more than MSRP. Their discretion. And stop calling them stealerships. If you get burned it's your own fault. Buyer beware.

Like it has been said, a dealership can sell them for whatever price they want. You can buy it or not, but you did not get overcharged. You just paid more there verse another place.

just a lil update.. i spoke to the service rep and asked why he was charging me over msrp, and i guess it struck a nerve- they've now decided to charge me at list price.
